Cerakote or Duracoat ???

Best baked on oily dirt remover?

BIGNASTY, why do you have coals in that pot? I looked at that several times and am at a loss... ... .

PToombs,

If you are reffering to his pic at the top of this page, that is a Camp Dutch Oven. It has feet on the bottom to raise it off of the coals and the lid has a flange and you place coals on top to make one incredible oven, think cobbler, pies, cornbread if it fits, it bakes. These can often be seen in a stacked mode, ex lg, lg, med to take the top heat and het the bottom of the oven on top of it.

And there you have it I just usually eat the food i'm not preparing it. When in camp I tend to the stock and game that has been taken. The wife and SIL do the biggest share of the cooking. Trust me when you have a bunch of stock and equipment to take care of THAT IS PRETTY MUCH A FULL TIME OCUPATION IN CAMP. I'm sure that Gary is far better at the grill than I. I wont starve but meal enjoyment and eatin it to survive is a BIG difference,I lke to eat by myself 1. No gabbing just shove your chow down your neck to fill that hole just above your belt. 2. Dont like to answer a bunch of questions about this knot and that knot why do it that way or why not do it this way. 3. Stupid questions about I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER THAT MAKE NO DIFFERENCE to the success of a hunt (favorite one is what do you think the weather is going to be) I get up open up the flap on the tent and say there it is?????????? WHAT THE HELL AM I THE WEATHER MAN? It is what it has been day in the AM and Dark in the PM, That's why I just like to Pack and stay away from the paying customers/ After 10 to 15 hours on trail hour or two on each end packing or unpacking feeding the stock gettin up an hour earlier than most to get horses ready for the hunt and the pack out that day dont leave much time for sleep 3 or 4 days in a row will sure take the starch out of your shorts

I almost detect that BIGNASTY just gave us a "bad day in my boots" report from his MT paradise, nope, I couldn't hold up to his tasks for a day like that.

So BIGNASTY, if you would like to mostly sit at a desk, read and answer e-mails, solve a TBD problem, listen to customers, eat a microwaved choke and puke frozen lunch, I'll try to fill your boots and you can have my desk, we'll swap.

But back to the Camp Dutch Oven, it is probally the single most versitile piece of heavy weight camp cooking equipment that you could have. The lid can be a skillet, the pot alone chili, stew, I do beef roasts in it, deep fryer, put it together and it can become a creative oven only your willingness to experiment and read a cookbook or two on them.

BIGNASTY, the sun will show a good day, it's there.

Gary NO DAY in the mountains is a bad day but if folks think its all glamor its NOT. I get tired and thats to be expected but its the kind of tired that I enjoy and that makes the difference.

Ive ate my share of bad food on the road and have no desire to sit behind a desk that has no windshield.

If there is a young person in the group that has a question I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH IT OR SHOWING THEM how and why I do things the way I DO. Its the older people that have no idea what they are talking about and are looking to have a personal sword fight with the next Big Dick Dueller that I would just rather NOT spend time around. Most of the time I plan on coming in late and leaving early so I dont have to listen to the Dueller.

Filling my Boots is not hard except the left one and thats because its got a foot in it most of the time. People think that im mad its just that I have a way of doing things and I dont change because they have worked for a long time so why change. Like my Brother and Sister came out from CA and VA respectively and said thats all you have to do is ride your horse in the mountains? YA THATS ALL. I do like it or I wouldn't do it but its not as easy as one would think. There will be a time that all I can do is sit on the front porch and remember these times and at times I dont beleive that those are to far in the future.

Keep up the What is It forum as I really enjoy guessing and seeing what others are guessing too. Best of luck. Moe

Moe,

I have something that I might try as a what is it, but it's homemade not an off the shelf item, might be fun, need to take a pic.

PToombs,

Get a camp dutch and get started, i'm really still learning how to use it, cast iron is king on the campfire. But I have a cardboard box oven that has to be seen to be believed, better yet, taste the results.

Gary

Can anyone figure out what this is? I don't know, so maybe someones does. I dug it up moving some dirt with the Bobcat so I saved it. With a little PB Blaster is will still swivel at the hinge, it looks to be hand forged.

Found at a trash and treasure shop

BIG,

Check this one out. Nope, didn't buy it. Did find a almost new Coleman 425E stove that I have my eye on.

Mr. GCroyle

Gail is still out in the field, he should be back in Wednesday! we went to see him this morning, we watched some wolves eat on a deer that they had killed and had lunch with Gail. He's doing well but tired, guess I would be also with wolves running around, it would be a little hard to sleep much!!

If I could have a guess? it looks like some sort of jack! or lift.

Penny

Penny,

Good to hear from you.

BIG started this thread with a wagon wheel jack and I spotted this what looks like a much older one at a shop here in SC tagged as a wagon wheel jack.

So let me see "we watched some wolves eat on a deer that they had killed and had lunch with Gail" BIG was chomping with the wolves on a fresh wolf kill? Thought he'd be a better trail cook than that

You guys take care, maybe BIG wants a better look at a possible antique wagon jack?

Gary

Gary
Gail will more than likely eat just about anything when he gets back, he's been cold camping because he doesn't want the wolves to know he's around. MRE's are his choice of cuisine, Don't know if you have ate those things? I would rather be a Euell Gibbons and eat the bark off of trees or pine nuts. They have got to be better than a few weeks of MRE's

Penny

Penny,

Our Son is in the National Guard and we've sampled a few. Maybe the big difference on the MRE was it my choice and not the only food available or for weeks on end. I had a few in the woods in WV during deer season, hit the spot but part of it might have been the times and the season too.

Gary

I would have to think long and hard on Gail's choice of food, he pigs it down to fill a void, no taste is involved in the decision. Below are the choices, what am I going to choose, WAIT!!!! LET ME THINK??? it wont take long!!! two of them could be confused in the dark without much taste difference. But those Elk Ribs could be my 1st pick.

Im just being mean Gary please forgive me, but you can understand why he eats those things.
