Competition 700 hp PSDs Pulling TONIGHT!

Another World Record was set this morning at the salt flats. Banks and the Sidewinder set the record at 218 mph. I'm a little supprised at the sumwhat negative coments I have receivied regarding my earlier post on the record. We all drive 5. 9 turbos and we are all looking to have fun and enhance our experience. I suppose I need to take into consideration the level of maturaty some of my fellow TDR members possess. Well anyway, take it easy everyone and hope to see at one of the west coast get-togethers.

Wow! That is truly amazing. Not only to go out and achieve the record that they were looking for but to exceed their goal by almost 10%. I thought about going to the flats but now I think I'll keep my little 162 mph truck at home. Good job and congrats to the Banks Crew. :)

Jnielsen,

If you have read these boards at all the last 2 years, you should not be surprised. From what I have gathered, customer service is not #1.

Bank$rupted, comes to mind!

I'm glad they did it in a Dodge with a Cummins, and I'm glad they bumped Dr. Ps illegitimate run, but at least he was a fullsize.

Its Banks, its big money, it has factory backing, it is sort of like saying NASA just set an airplane speed record.

It was a moderatly BOMBed Cummins in a light truck, it SHOULD go 200 MPH!

I agree 100% with Sledpuller! If you think hard about it, it's impressive, but not mind blowing by far. Take a 3500lb truck, with a 600hp motor, a set of airplane gears, and a 5mile runway and it should fly to 200mph. Theirs a bunch of trucks that are making that much power or more at pulls, by guys that work for a living...

I would agree with all the Bank’s Bashers that any truck with enough horsepower the right gearing and enough room should be able to break the 200mph barrier. What makes this truck impressive is the truck is street legal, low emissions and quiet and tows a trailer to the Booneville then does 218 mph.

Sled Puller: “Bank$ruputed” hey that’s cute. Have you ever had any experience with Bank’s products or are you just one of the many mouths who like to bash products because others don’t like them. If this project had been done by Piers or Mitchell’s or Amsoil would it have been an accomplishment? As for Banks big bucks and factory sponsorship, I guess that’s one of the perks that comes with running a successful business. I sure that you pay for all your parts out of you own pocket and would turn down a factory sponsorship if DC were to offer you one. Jeff

Since you asked, Banks was the first company I started asking questions about modifying a Diesel--before I even had one. Why? because I knew their reputation with other stuff. Their (His?)past cannot be argued.

After MUCH research, the first company to get my money was Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh. And a clutch from Blue Chip.

A blind man could see power to money Banks (and a few others)were way overpriced. And they weren't doing anything more then the other companys, but had their name real flashy on the parts.

I have followed the Sidewinder project in many publications, I am glad it did what it was supposed to, after all the hype. And misinformation, horrible reporting job by a few.

I tend to like small companies better, that don't treat me like a number, the good ol cash cow, that can be milked more often if we shine them on .

"Bank$rupted was started by another member, but it always cracked me up!

Please forgive me for not being overly impressed.

JNielson;

That's great that they got the truck to do what they wanted. Man, I can't even get my truck to run half that speed!

However, I gotta ask... Are they going to be doing any drag-racing with the Dakota? That much power + Little weight = Go quick! They might have to re-gear or even get an auto in, but I bet that sucker would be good on the strip. Heck, maybe even race the other Dakota/Cummins.

Here's the project objectives for the Sidewinder Project.

They want to haul the race trailer to the site, race the truck, then tow the trailer back home. Seems like a helluva plan to me. Remember, these guys are doing this with the new common rail engine available in the 2003 Rams.

Banks holds the record. They are on top of the world record list. Anyone is welcome to step up and knock them down. If you can do it, let 'er rip.

Good job Banks. Glad to see you reach 2/3 of the goal. Now lets get that pony on the strip and see what it will do.

I had mine dyno'd on a dynojet in ND. They ran it up to a top speed on the dyno which was 155 mph. with 322HP and 863 torque. This was done in double overdrive. The truck is an HO 6speed with 3. 54s and a gear vendor . It has DD2s, EZ Edge, KN filter and 4 inch exhaust. Of course I had to disable the speed limiter. It defueled at the govoner of about 3200 or 3300 rpm. 3500 rpm probably would have probably had a gain of another 15 to 20 mph. and probably shredded the tires. Gear vendors can be staked for double and triple overdrives.

Of course you realize there's no wind-resistance to overcome on a dyno. ;)

Our trucks are about as aerodynamic as a diesel-powered brick. :-laf

Saturday after noon the Sidewinder made a pass at 222. 139. There also was truck which is a Toyota cab with a Detroit Diesel 4-71 (284 cid) mounted behind the cab. It ran a 153 before holing a piston.
