Non Functional Eaton Fuller Knob

I'm new to the board, somewhat new to the CTD:D , and not at all new to diesels:D . Any help appreciated

1. Owned truck for 12k of it's 136k miles. It has a knock or flutter. Seems fuel related, doesn't do it with no throttle. Slight vib at idle in the mirrors. 750 rpm. Strongest and loudest at 1750 rpm light throttle. May go away after hours of running. Worse when cold. Can barely feel it on the pedals and steering wheel. Sounds like light rod knock, but I think it is fuel due to vibration also present, and goes away (along with vibration) at no fuel position. Injector? Delivery valve?

2. What is best 215 pump timing for economy without low end loss below 1750? 16 deg? Who makes the thrust bearing washer tool that you need to start snugging up the pump drive gear after timing it? Is it a must?

3. See sig for current set up. I will work on air and exhaust soon, is 370s next good step with 3000 GSK? Mine does not seem to shut down much until 2800, which is ok for me.

Thanks for response. Love this forum:D and the CTD:D :D

first and foremost, welcome aboard :D

have you had the valves set lately? maybe start there with the rough idle and vibration. taking into account the miles and you not having owned it long.

16 degrees would be the highest you should go for now. Miller/SPX makes the tool kit the DC techs use and i believe is the same one Snap On sells. it has the round puller with the thrust washers to use. second part of that is No, you dont have to use them (thrust washers) and i think most guys actually dont.

sorry we let this go unanswered, just gotta yell louder next time :D

Sometimes an injector can make a knocking sound. If it is not spraying well it will inject fuel without it lighting off and it will build up in the cylinder and ignight all at once causing a knocking sound. I'm just about to time my engine as well. I think I will only go to 14. 5 to 15 deg to start. I am going to do it with no special tools except the gear puller. first I am going to engage the engines TDC timing pin and then the pumps timing pin wich should put me at stock timing. Then I'm going to loosen the pump gear, pull the TDC pin and back the engine up 1. 5 - 2 deg using my angle finder tool. Then retighten the pump gear. Then I'm not going to forget to pull the timing pin out on the pump again!! I asked Al at Piers diesel about this and he said it should work fine. I'll let you know how it goes.

Treven.
