i just bought a 98 qc 2500 4x4 5spd the truck had a ton of power with the 285/75's that came on it but of course those not being tall enough i had a 5 inch skyjacker lift and 315/75's installed and of course now i need some more power i think who ever had the truck before played with the injector pump alittle though not much and i'm tryin to decide where to start to get some more power out of it i'd like to start with the smaller inexpensive things first if i can also i have a HUGE oil leak down near the balancer some where i thought it was the front main which is what it looks like but i just read the kdp thread and it freaked me out can some one tell me what i'm lookin for exactly in dummy dummy terms if that thing has come out of the cover with out dissassembling everything? thanks

You will need to pull the front cover to replace the front seal anyway, so plan to kill the dowel pin while you are there. If this fixes the leak, then you can play for power mods. You didn't mention mileage on the clock. Gauges come before mods.

ha think i found most of the leak looks like i have a huge leak from the ps pump that's mixin with a little oil leak so far and damn if that pump doesn't look hard to change! which gauges do i need i figured boost and egt anything else and what egt's should i be lookin for?

Seeing you have a standard, egt and boost is sufficient. Normal egt temps will be around 600 to 800 while driving, higher with towing or playing hard. Rule of the thumb is not to go over 1250 degrees. After that, look at a good exhaust system and intake to get enought air through the engine. Then you can look at injectors, fuel plate, turbo... . ect the sky is the limit and your wallet. Oh and depending how much power you want, you might want to plan a clutch upgrade also in the future. Have fun and enjoy.

I just got that major oil leak fixed on my 94 with 190k on it. I was told it was going to be the front cover seal. It turns out it was the front cover, the bolts were backing out causing the oil to leak. Tightening the bolts fixed the problem. Check em out first before you go tearing into that project. I lucked out, replacing the gasket and the pin would have cost me almost 2k.

Good luck

thanks for the info guys i've got a k&n cold air setup now and straight pipe and i just replaced my ps pump yesterday and surprise i fixed one leak and i've got another i'm leaking now between the ps pump and the vaccum pump where can i get that seal and is there a thread on here about changin it i talked to the local dodge dealer today and they told me they don't service vaccum pump parts and i'd have to buy the whole thing for $810 and i told him uh no thanks boss i saw somewhere on here cummins sells it but i can't find the thread!

and on an alternate and related note after spendin two days up to my shoulders in the engine bay fixin misc stuff it looks like it might be just the front cover gasket leaking and a little from the oil pan on the pass side and at the front and that looks like 0 fun to change how far does the engine need to be lifted to change the oil pan gasket?

as much as i need some more power now with the 35's i've been looking at thuren fabs track bar and cross over steering setup as i had my first death wobble today and jesus that was freaky ball joints and those two are in order for sure then i was thinkin about new exhaust and i'd like duals and a tst plate is that it what does it stand for any recommendations as too which one though? that seemed like the best bang for the buck to start with though i dunno which one yet and also egt and boost gauges any ideas and thanks in advance:D

Pete at http://www.fixinrams.com/ 877-349-6726 has a DVD on replacing the vacuum pump. I have not seen it, but from what I have read it is pretty good
.

I found this searching the forum I don't remember the thread being a newbie myself I'm still trying to figure how this work's and learn how to use a computer to boot. There is a seal repair kit for the vac pump at this site for $60... alittle cheaper then the dealer quoted you. Also they tell you how to work on it. Hope this helps.

As for the gauges, I got Autometer and am happy with them, going to have to get a 60# boost gauge though... I'm been pinning the 35#.

And I thought I got the bomb bug bad. :-laf

thanks!

thanks i appreciate it that's one hell of alot better than $810 for sure and now that i know how it's not like it's hard to pull that thing off at all!
