Just got the Edge Comp box on my 01'... . already have DDII's and DTT transmission. Everything else is stock. On 5x5 today. . passing some up a hill I heard a boom from the turbo... . loost all boost and starting smoking real bad out exhaust. . EGT's real high. Saw a hose line off turbo running to cooler lost a hose clamp. Put a cheap one on there to fix it for now... also noticed a loost bolt on the manifold right above the turbo. . tightened it. I now have my boost back, and turned off the box. I hear a squealing the more boost I build... like a high pitched air leak. Looks like I need to tighten the hose back up. . didn't put it on straight. Going to the dealership tomorrow and getting the proper hose clamp. Also ordering a Super B turbo, AFE and pusher pump as well. I was right at 40psi when the turbo made the noise. Anything I should look for or know about and why did this happen... just too small of a turbo?? Did I hurt anything?

Just call Piers and get a set of his hoses and clamps. Problem solved!

When my stock hoses started blowing, new clamps wouldn't fix it. I remember one trip to Boston with a trailer in tow... drove with a feather-lite touch on the throttle, and still blew the hose at least a half dozen times. My better half was with me, and needless to say, she wasn't at all impressed with my new power upgrades!! Called Piers the next day!

The stock charge air boots are too soft and haven't got any wire reinforcement rings in them. When you build about 35-45lbs. of boost, they expand in the middle and pull out from under the clamps. Then BOOM :--) . With the HD charge air boot setup that Piers sells i've run upwords of 50psi on a stock charger (read: DONT DO IT) with oput any probs, and I know there are alot of other members with big singles or twins with the same result.

Also while you are replacing them check out the passenger side metal inner fender. there is a lip that curls down and can rub the lower boot and cut it. Use a good pair of channel locks or a cresent wrenck or a hammer or ??? various large dense object (sledpullers head?) :-laf . to move it out of the way. :D

:rolleyes: Clmsnow- On 5-26-05- we warned you repeatedly- to turn down that dang Comp box!!!!:( Your running the stock turbo WELL out of its optimum map range. If you listened to reason- this might not have happened... ... ... Keep it up and there will be an even more mess the next time the turbo goes KABOOM! Hopefully you didn't really hurt the turbo this time... ... If you continue this practice and it goes KABOOM again, your engine just might ingest some fragged impeller and THEN you won't be a happy camper... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

Call Piers- ask for the hi-boost boots with the H/D spring loaded clamps- and hopefully your turbo stops making noises, and then if all is well:

TURN DOWN THE COMP BOX!!!!!!:{

That was the first thing to come to my mind when it happend. I have been running it on 3x5 and just "had" to turn it up to pass someone(like I really needed it). The box is turned off right now until I get it fixed. I know, I know... I should have listened. I was planning on ordering a Super B turbo this week... is that the best for what I have? Also. . if i get the proper clamps on there and there continues to be a squealing noise(which I doubt because it was a little better when I tightened it back down. . but it still keeps backing off) then is the turbo screwed? Can I damage it by driving it to work tomorrow?

RacinDuallie. Thanks for all the help... I really appreciate it. I'll do just like you said. I don't think I'll ever see over 48psi in my truck... . so right now I am not worried about the head. Any recommendations on turbos??

One more thing to think about... .

On a stock turbo (especially with a little HY) you could pop a HG at considerably less than 48psi because the drive pressure that is created pushing that little turbo so hard.

I take it you like the PDR much better then the Super B? I have been leaning towards the Super B but I am open for suggestions.

FWIW - Before I'd spend the money on a modified HX40 I would look at some of the other options that are available in that price range. Personally, since they are very close in dollars, I would spend my money on an HTB2 vs an HX40.

The Super B is a decent little turbo. The key word being little. It flows less air on the top end than a 40 but still much, much more than a stock HY. I think you would find the 40 pretty doggy if you are replacing your stock HY. The Super B will be much more street friendly than the 40. JMHO

From what I understand the HTBG is basically a modified Super B.

The HTB2 is bigger and will flow considerably more air.

I see you have a 2001. If you are still having a boost leak, check the intercooler boot coming off the intercooler on the drivers side, I guarantee the boot has a tear in it. Make sure before you put new boots on, get under with a small hammer and get that sheet metal away from the boot.

I put it back together and it seems fine. If I had a tear in the boot would I loose power or boost? I ran the box on 3x5 and hit 37psi. It seemed fine. I am putting on a HTBG Friday with an AFE and pusher pump. Anything I should know about when installing them??
