Folks -

I am new to the Forum, and posted several weeks back, wondering why prices were so high on the used SLT '03. 5-'04 QuadCab 4x4 truck I wanted. Well, many posted that the used trucks are priced higher than they ought to be. (I couldn't find anything less than $28,000. 00, for an '04 SLT, QuadCab, 4x4, auto, with around 35k miles. )

Many recommended I look at new ones, which I was initially reluctant to do, but I did. Then I bought one!

Here's what I bought:

'06 Ram 2500 4x4, Quad Cab, SLT ($33,150)

Cummins ($5555)

Auto trans. ($1095)

Premium bench, w/power driver's seat +seat storage console ($455)

2UG package

Light group ($180)

Thunder Road package: ($1,295)

Anti-spin rear diff: ($285)

Power sliding rear window ($155)

Fold away power tow mirrors ($100)

The total sticker price was $43,170.

I bought it for $33,200, and in addition to that, got $1,000 over Kelly Blue Book trade in value for my '04 Tundra in trade.

The following discounts applied:

1- $3500 from chrysler

2- Friends and family

3- holdback waiver

4- Business link

Light Group ($180)

I shopped nearly twenty dealers. Most were way out of line on the price for the new truck AND out of line on the trade in. When all was said and done, I ended up doing business with a small, family owned five star dealer in farm country. They had 4 '06 Cummins Rams, and wanted to move them. Also, I am pretty sure they had my Tundra sold before I traded it, thus the better trade in allowance for me.

I love the truck, and the 610 motor is much, much quieter than the '03 and '04s I test drove. I also particularly like the electric sliding rear window, and the huge mirrors. But, of course, most of all, I like the T O R Q U E

My thanks to all forum members for their help in getting me squared away on this deal. I am confident I bought the truck right, and am very happy I went new instead of used.

Congrats on the new ride and welcome to the club! Good lookin' rig.

I have never regretted buying mine. I drove a Datsun pickup (yes, a Datsun, not a Nissan) and looked at a Toyota pickup before I bought my first Dodge back in 1991. For the same MPG I got a full size truck with the extra steel around me. You will love the size and comfort of the Dodge and the extra safety.

Enjoy! and don't be afraid to ask questions. If you ask it, someone on the board will have the answer, I guarantee it.

Best -

Steve

Thanks Steve. The Tundra was a good truck, but the seats were lousy, and the cab is very narrow compared to the Dodge. MPG should either be even, or advantage Dodge, once it breaks in.

Here's another picture of the truck with my Black Labrador Retriever "Diesel" checking out his new ride. :p

Welcome and congrats on the new rig!

Looks you have New York tags, what part of the Empire state are you from?

I am in Baldwinsville, outside of Syracuse. Incidentally, your truck is really sharp. I like the Patriot Blue over silver, and came very close to one in that combo. The dealer that had it couldn't compete on price, and it didn't have the electric rear window, which I wanted.

Congrats on the truck!!

And BTW - You should feel good about that price. That is a good deal for sure!

Very nice deal you got there! I just got a 2006 Laramie "J" that I ordered. I REALLY wanted the power sliding rear window, but it was not availible on a laramie "J" ONLY availible on Laramie "H" . I am surprised that you can get it on the SLT but not the Laramie J. THat electric rear slider is a NICE feature- my kids alway leave that back window open, then I have to climb back there and close it. sure would be nice to just press a button...
