Aloha from the island of Kauai. I just purchased a 01 4. 10 auto 4x4 and have a couple questions. Im sure you answered them all a million times before but bear with me please. First off i have 812 miles on the motor, when should be my first oil and filter change be? Is it really as hard as ive been reading about? Second

is this, at about 2k to 2500 rpm i get a strange vibration, i dont know if its just the power getting to the ground, maybe just the motor working or what. I can feel it through the floor and through the gas pedal. I know its not coming from the tires or anything like that, just a funny feeling that my 1500 didnt have. 3rd and final question, legalitys aside, hypothetically speaking what harm would off road diesel due to my motor, will it harm it? Thanks in advance for you replies, i have learned so much in the short time i have been a subscriber already, and im still learning.

Welcome to the TDR. Oil changes are not bad. They've changed the gasket on the filter and it's not as bad to get off. Make sure you have a good band style or plier grip filter wrench and you'll be fine. If you use a band (metal) style, watch the connections on the back of the alternator or you may get some sparks. BTW, I changed mine at 2K the first go.

Off road fuel won't hurt your engine. It will hurt your pocketbook if you are caught using it. Fines are levied by the state so take a look before you commit. Off road is died and easy to detect.

There will be some vibration to get used to with the diesel vs gas. At 2000 you are entering the zone where the boost is up and the power is peaking. There will be some vibration. It shouldn't feel strange, just different. Once you pull a load and get everthing seated, it should smooth out some.

Good luck.

Alan gave you some good advice! I would add to the oil change that I did mine at 1200 miles. A "trick" I learned here is to use a 1 gallon baggie or similar to keep from spilling oil out of your filter when you remove it. Loosen the filter, and before it is unscrewed all the way, slip the baggie under/around it. Then unscrew it all the way, drop it down and pull it out. Oil is not good on your turbo boots!

Dustin, welcome to the TDR! I lived on the Garden Isle in Kilauea, for a year while building the fountains at the entrance to Princeville, sort of feel sorry for you, no place to really get that CTD up to top speed! 95% of the fuel my trucks have seen is offroad, I feel they run much better with it and can defiantly feel the difference with the clear. Can't beat the price either. Have heard that the Dodge dealer in Lithue is someone to avoid, beware.

The off road diesel and regular diesel are one and the same with the exception of dye added to the off-road "for tracing purposes". The offroad doesn't have taxes added in, therefore it is much cheaper. It takes several tankfulls of normal diesel to ''wash out" all the dye if you ever put in one tank full of the off-road. The fine for getting caught using agriculture off-road diesel in your pickup is normally pretty steep, upwards of $10,000 so is it really worth risking it.

Off-road dyed diesel does not mean for off road driving, it means for farmers usage in tractors, etc. but as far as how it is made - there is no difference in it and the normal diesel.
