Hello, I just purchased a 94 auto Regular Cab (110,000 miles) and am hoping I don't have a big problem right off the bat. The truck is stock (for now :D ) but it can't drive over 80-85 MPH. When it reaches that speed, I can press the pedal down some more but it won't go faster. Is this typical of this year/model? Oh yeah, it has 3. 55 gears. Thanks for all your help and I look forward to more conversing in the future!

Also, any top notch shop recommendations for the Philly area?

You need to do a KDP fix if it hasn't already been done, check your speedo with a GPS, on mine the GPS says 90. 0mph and the speedo in the pick-up says 85mph the odometer is also 10% off in my faver.

Shut it off, & have someone hold the foot feed all the way down. Pop the hood, look at the throttle linkeage, and see if it has any additional travel. Some get out of adjustment, and need the slack taken out of the cable. With 3:54 gears, & 245/16 tires, you should be traveling about 70mph at 2,000 rpm. With 265's you should be traveling about 75 mph, same rpm, (by GPS, speedo might not indicate correctly unless it was re-calibrated). It might be starving for air and/or fuel too, check your filters if you haven't already.

I'm 99% sure it's just topped out on the govenor. My '94 used to run about 78 - 80 mph and no more. I installed a Piers 3k govenor kit and now can run past 100 mph easy. These engines are easy and cheap to hop up, have fun!

Thanks for the suggestions on the maximum speed. I am definitely going to have to get the KDP arrested - I saw the list of the shops that can do it at the beginning of the forum. Does anyone have an idea of the cost differences between them. I see Autuwurks is within a reasonable driving distance.

Check your throttle cable slack cause my 96 did the same on the floor wouldnt go past 70mph..... took up the slack in the cable does over a 100mph now... Rick

KDP cost

I own my own jig and it only took us 2hrs. Any of these shops should be able to do it in that amount of time give or take a little bit of course. If not, go somewhere else.

hope this helps

Update

Well, I checked the throttle cable with a buddy helping and it looks OK. I just got an AFE air intake, so I installed it and drove the truck just to make sure it wasn't the old air intake. It still topped out around 80-85. I am fairly confident it just needs the governor springs. Thanks for everyones help! Oh yeah, the AFE sounds absolutely awesome!
