hi all:D i just bought my first diesel:p its a 99 q-cab 4x2 auto 55k mi. i didnt really want an auto but the price was right. i want a little more power to pull my race car and was thinking of getting an EZ Edge, is the EZ worth it and does it do as it says?

i bought a TST unit but after reading the directions noticed it would require drive line upgrades and i am not ready to do that yet, so i sold it.

how about a Pac exhaust brake? i know someone that has a brand new unit he will sell cheap but how will it work with an auto?

TIA

Doug

Welcome painekiller. You will be glad you joined up. The edge is good, not sure how your auto will like it,pretty sure it won't like a brake without some trans mods.

Welcome

Hi Doug, welcome to the TDR.

If you do any significant power upgrades you will need to do transmission upgrades.

But for a mild power increase, you can add either some RV275 or stage 1 injectors without too much risk of transmission problems. The next most common power upgrade is a basic fueling box. Like an Edge EZ. I prefer the Edge Comp since it supports future power upgrades and is inside-the-truck controlable.

If you fear or can't afford transmission upgrades the RV injectors are your best bet for a mild power upgrade with the least potential harm to the transmission. This is because the injectors will add their power mostly in the upper rpm ranges and with lots of throttle which keeps the transmission pressures up so the trans can handle the added power.

I am only a few hours north of you, if you want to drive a truck with an upgraded transmission you are welcome to contact me, check your PM's I sent you a message. I also have fuel boxes in stock to take for a 'test-drive'

Hope this helps Greg L

Welcome aboard. I have a 98. 5 24 valve with the edge ez, an exhaust and an AFE stage II air ibtake. I also have the larger banjo bolts to keep my fuel psi up. So far so good with my stock trans. I have 67K miles on the clock.

Doug the first thing you need is a fuel pressure gauge to monitor your lift pump pressure, at the same time get a boost and egt gauge, they will be handy to have with injectors and/or fueling box and mandatory later on when you really add power. You will love this site and there is a wealth of info in the search section.

Chris.

thanks for all the input:D

so it sounds like i should get gauges, any particular kind anyone had good luck with?

SKargo, what are banjo bolts? im new to this diesel thing:confused: do you work your truck or use it for basic transportation? i am going to be working mine.

Lsfarm, what kind of upgrades are needed for the trans. and how much $$ to have them done. i have built almost everything on my race car but the trans. i never messed with one. the injectors you mention, are they the same ones they sell on ebay that are 300hp, 350hp?

is an air intake worth the $$? if i was to buy one which is best?

TIA
