Electric pumps are made to push, not pull fuel. I relocated my factory pump to inside the frame just ahead of the fuel tank and am very happy with the modification. Kits are available for the modification or you can make your own parts. Do a search... there is TONS of information available!

I lost my first VP44 due to low fuel pressure. Now, I run a gauge! I also added a 2qt fuel filter ahead of the original. I now change fuel filters based on fuel pressure. When it drops a pound or two, I change them. I now commonly go 25k on the pair!!!

If you install a fuel pressure gauge and watch it, you can catch small problems before they become major. You can also change your fuel filters when they need it... regardless of mileage. You can potentially SAVE enough money in fuel filters alone to pay for the gauge... besides having the safety of knowing what is going on!

Thanks everyone! This is the information that I hoped to get. I've done some searches and I will do more tonight about gauges.

To anyone interested: I got my truck back today. They said that it was out of fuel!!!! They told me that a sensor in the tank was bad. The gauge was reading approx. 3/8 of a tank. As long as I've owned the truck, I never let the gauge go below 1/2 a tank. I was short on money and let it go below..... It makes me wonder if they just replaced my lift pump automatically, without diagnosing the problem thoroughly. Both problems would show up as no fuel. Anyway, I went across the street and filled the tank. I'll still have to keep it above 1/2 a tank until it gets repaired.

It just never ends... .

Thanks for the replies, Scott
