Noob, Looking at an '02...checklist?

Happy to be here..

First of all; TDR is awesome; huge amounts of info and knowledge here!!!!

Called the dealer in Phoenix and found out my truck is "in Texas" on a train.

Don't know where in Tx or when it arrived. Any ideas how long it would take to get to Phoenix? I'm trying to get some idea how to plan picking it up; I'm in San Diego and need to get a rental car and take a day off. The guy I talked to only had a vague idea and said call back Friday. Folks on TDR seem to know as much or more than dealer people so I thought I'd ask here.

Next question; where is the best place to get the AMP power retractable steps? Dealer list is $1395. Genos is $1190. Hard to even find them elsewhere.

Last question; how big of a deal is fuel foaming when re-fueling? I hear of people going to a lot of trouble (time) to get a full, non-aerated tankful. Is it

worth any extra effort or should I just wait for the pump to click off and hang up the nozzle?

Getting a little excited now. Oo. First diesel. 03 1500 went bye-bye today.

To get a true full tank get the fuel tank vent mod, link in my signature. This will relocate the tank vent to the highest point on the tank alloqwing you to use the expansion area of the tank.

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago asking about the expanion of diesel from around 50* to mid 90's. If you drive more than approximatly 12 miles you will have anough room for expansion if you fill it all the way up the the opening.

Good luck with your Megacab Diesel. That cummins is a night and day differance from the HEMI or any other affordable gas engine

If you knew a rail car number I could find out for you. I work for Union Pacific and I can almost bet your truck came through Ft Worth/Dallas. Auotracks that go to Arizona and California are somewhat of a high priority and get shipped quickly. Typically it's about 2 days or a little more just depends on the train traffic or if there is a de-railment to slow things further.

Hopefully the car carrying your truck is either on the head of end of an intermodal train or what we call an autorack train both of these can be run at 70 mph which will help the transit time. If it's in what we call a junk train ( mix of comodities ) the time may be slower due to these trains not being a high priority.

These type of unit ( single comodities) trains average about 197 miles in about 6-8hrs or less between crew changes. From Elpaso to Phoenix I believe one crew takes it the entire 327 or so miles which usually runs about 8hrs. Friday sounds pretty good and may there then or Sat. at the latest. Don't hold me to Sat. though we have some real goobers running the railroad these days, but Fri. or Sat. sounds good

The salesman called me today and said there was a possibility it would be in June 7th. That would work. It also fits with your guesstimate if , by Sat, you mean Sat the 3rd. That would give them a couple days to get it on a truck and to the dealer. I'll call again Monday and get an update. My salesman

is on vacation Sunday-Friday. He called the district manager to get the info he did. I guess I can wait a few more days before I pester them again. I wondered about the make-up of the train; what it takes to re-arrange all the cars in the yard and "build" it. I realize shipping cars can be something of a crap-shoot. Just hoping something like this doesn't happen to it;

A co-worker ordered a Corvette some years ago here in San Diego. It came in by boat and was offloaded at the port about 10 miles from where he lived. His was one of the first ones off the boat and got put to the back of the lot. He had to wait 2 weeks before they got all the rest in front of it cleared out so he could have it.

WOW, you hit it on the nose. I called today (Monday) and it came into the yard over the weekend. Should be at the dealer Tue or Wed which will give them a couple days to prep and install the Jake. Pick up on Sat hopefully.

I'm planning on a good 700-800 mile breakin trip on the way home.

YAHOO!!!
