I have been "lurking" here for almost a year and feel like I know most of you! Finally decided to jump in and join the fun!

It seems that one of you has sent me the dreaded BOMB-itis virus, and it apparently went through my computer, out through the mouse and into my bloodstream! I know, resistance is futile, I will be assimilated! :D

If I have my facts straight, the general consensus is that for us guys with stock automatics, that the Edge EZ or the VA box is all we should do. Will this automatic hold with one of these boxes? The truck is used mostly for a daily driver and occasionally tows a boat that will weigh in at about 5000 pounds with boat, trailer, and gear. Should one drive more carefully when using one of these boxes and towing? Also, will these boxes "write" to the ECM and leave "tracks" that the dealer can read, or is it just the boxes with the pump wire tap? As you can see by my sig, I have the gauges already installed and have a good idea of what my truck does in towing conditions in it's stock form. Any advice you can give me will be appreciated! :D

Jweir:

First welcome aboard. As far as the EZ your stock transmission should be able to handle it ok as long as you drive reasonably most of the time. I have had my ez for about 10k and have not noticed any transmission problems. Have not done any "heavy" towing with it though. The best solution would be some transmission work. I personally am waiting for the money pile to get a little bigger so that I can enhance my auto with a DTT VB and 89 tc, but their are other options out there. As far as the ECM if I recall correctly the ecm knows whats going on but the dodge techs don't/can't dig deep enough to see it but Cummins can. Oh and I doubt the sick sob that sent you the virus will ever come forward and admit it. Probably some sort of vendor conspiracy against the masses.

Call "Bill"... Bill Kondolay at DTT. I don't have an auto but he is the defacto standard that all others are measured against. Then follow his advice.

Good luck, and welcome aboard:p :-laf

I run a VA box with a PSBM and I have hauled very heavy. I do not drive like a reasonable person. My mileage shows it. I average 12 mpg per tank:D I can't help it this truck plain hauls butt. Your trany will hold all of the power the box will throw at it. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!! The box will not be enough... ... The bombing virus is deadly. I am saving for dtt trany mod so I can install injectors... ... ... ... ... ... Welcome to the dark side Luke

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies, welcomes and the advice!

BarryG, you are probably right, no one will admit to sending the virus  . I also am waiting for the money pile to grow so that I can go see Bill.

DEZLPWR, If I can get the money around, I will be giving you a call!

Mark_Kendrick, Gotta let the "money pile" grow a bit before I start bugging Bill!

Greg Boardman, "I run a VA box with a PSBM " I am not sure what a PSBM is  ( darned newbies :D )

Also, will these boxes "write" to the ECM and leave "tracks" that the dealer can read, or is it just the boxes with the pump wire tap?

Just wanted to answer this portion of your question. Yes a qualified tech will be able to spot any box you install on your truck. That includes any box that taps the pump wire and any box that plugs in "inline" or to the data port. Now that you are scared you have to ask yourself this question. How many qualified techs are out there that know exactly what to look for?? Probably not many and besides, if all you do is install an EZ I really doubt you are going to hurt anything on your truck. I had a power edge fueling box hooked up to my bone stock truck for 9 months and did not hurt the transmission and I ran it on level three quite often.

Good luck and happy BOMBing.

Oh ya, repeat after me..... I am my own warrany station.

Great!

JR2,

Thanks for your input. It is good to know someone has had these mods without trashing a transmission, that is something I can't afford right now.

Now how did that go... . I am my,... uh,... oh yea, my own warranty station. (phew, thats kinda spooky  )

Newport

Jim welcome aboard, I love that area you live in (lucky stiff). My wife and I vaccation at the Surfrider in Depot Bay every year and have for the last seven years and love it. This year we are bringing our trailer and staying at Beverly Beach for two weeks. Stop by and say hello if you have a chance, will be the first part of Sept. Chuck.

Well....

Chuck

Not so sure about that "lucky stiff" stuff today, we have 30-50 mph winds and horizontal rain. :{

Oh well, the price you pay to live in Paradise :D

When you come out this Sept. , look me up in the Travel Companion and come see me, that is a great time of year for this area, especially if the Tuna are biting!

:D :D

Bombing

Oo. Be careful Jim its a trick . Chuck will lead you in to really bombing your truck. I know for a fact about that because he the one Who got me going with the box first. :p Then many other things started adding up fast :D :D :D Good Luck !! and Welcome aboard. . :D

Welcome! Do you fish a lot? A good board is IFISH. NET it is all about fishing in the NW. Wrong place to be talking about fishing but I have to go get Tuna this summer!:D I have the PE COMP and like the way I can turn it up and down. On the lowest setting I can get around 14mpg in the city and when I turn it up it goes down to as low as 9mpg in the city. So I have the best of both worlds and when I need to get the boat to the fishing hole quick I just turn it up and away I fly. :D
