Newbie, "thump" question.

Great site! I've been reading since October... lots of useful and friendly advice. My question is regarding the "thump" sound that some of you have been talking about when the ignition key is first turned on. My truck doesn't make that sound, but I have a buddy with a '99 3500 4x4 auto and his DOES make it. What's the deal? Should my truck also "thump" or does it matter? Thanks for the info.

I was told that the "thump" sound was from the ABS system on trucks with 4 wheel ABS.
My truck has 4w ABS and does make the noise. The noise will be much less if you put your foot on the brake pedal before starting. Hope this helps. Dan #ad
