I need a truck

New CTD Owner (Finally!) With Questions

Greetings All;

Just a quick note to say hello. I picked up my truck just before Christmas last year. I could not be happier!!

I put in the K&N instead of buying new filters from Dodge all the time. I've had K&N in my motorcycles for years and really like them. While I was in the air intake, I decided to take out the silencer ring. Didn't notice any change in noise at all. That being said, All I've done since removal is around town stuff with no load. Maybe I'll notice it once I've got a load on.

I've read a few threads where people have been broken into. I was in Little Rock, Arkansas in early June when my truck was violated. But I guess I was actually lucky. All the thieves wanted was the contents, nothing off the truck itself. Nothing damaged on the truck except for the drivers front window they smashed out to get in. I would post some pictures but they stole my camera.

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions so please be patient. I do use the search function as much as possible but it can be frustrating at times. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Welcome to TDR. There are lots of great people here with a wealth of experience with these trucks. Always remember, the only dumb question is the one that you don't ask. :)

I know if I'm going to pull hard I put mine back in. Otherwise 32lbs of sustained boost up a mountain can be brutal, especially on the passenger.

Welcome to TDR.

Feys,

Welcome to the TDR & Dodge/Cummins. Great site & truck & engine.

First of all, I'm sorry about the problems you encountered, here in the U. S. As I'm sure you know, we're not ALL that way. The jerks sure put the rest of us in a bad light, though.

I believe the problem you are having with not being able to hear the turbo "sing" is the fact that the tube between the filter & the turbo has a lot of silencing material (baffles), in it.

I put a "metal torque tube" from AFE in mine & it sounds like an F-16 jet engine intake. It's loud enough that people walking down the street, in front of the truck, will turn around to see what's coming down the road. Some folks hate it. I'm 60 & love it. Guess I'll never grow up (sure hope not).

I don't mean to knock the K&N filters but, some of us, including me, have had problems with them letting in too much dirt. However, there are quite a few folks that have had Great Luck, with the K&N Product. Hopefully, you are in the latter group. I would recommend that you, occasionally, pull off the filter & check to see if any dirt or dust is getting into your intake system. That way, you will know, for sure. Again, Good Luck.
