p0514 what's up with that

So i finally traded off my 2 old worn out powerstrokes (94.5 F350 flatbed hay hauler,1997 crewcab daily driver both had 280k plus miles WORE OUT)So in the strum of things I figured I should narrow myself to one NEWER truck to keep my maintenance costs down as I try to help my old man out with our farm, and got to thinking about dodges, fords and chevy's test drove entirely to many trucks knowing I was tired of fixing the hpop related problems a high mileage 7.3 or 6.0 has (the 6.0 part is more of a joke ,I mean really high mileage?lol) and found a street legal tractor with my new to me 2006 Regular cab slt 4x4 with just 114k on her, the sheer low end ferocity these engines have is absolutely astounding!(coming from a v-8 diesel )the rest of the truck well leaves something to be modified hence why I found this place. Anyway cheers Fellas! Also any recommendations on fuel setup ? thinking a fass 150 titanium series ,just wondering if theres anything better ? And anywhere I can find some must know information for the common rail owner ? besides getting efi live :)

On my 3rd gen, I used a FASS with 2 or 3 micron filter and a Smarty. I had gauges; if not you can get an Edge or TST box that includes gauges. You can generally add one thing giving around 50 HP before you need more turbo. However, more turbo does help; on my early 04 it gave about 25 HP due to lower restriction.

Welcome aboard. One thing to be careful around is the TIPM module. In ford speak, this is the GEM module which controls a lot of body functions. It's the box next to the LH battery. It's not repairable and expensive. A friend had an '06, and didn't heed my warning about keeping lighting stock and well maintained, and he wound up with TIPM troubles. If you search around here you'll find more info.
There's more info on front end maintenance. I totally endorse a free spin kit for the front axle.

Here is a free booklet from TDR to anyone who wants to down load it from this website. On the home page on the LH side is a booklet called Buying a Turbo Diesel since this is not your first diesel you might overlook the booklet. But this book which is in PDF format will have a lot of information on any model year of truck for the Ram Diesel plus it offers what are the common problems with each year.

Good luck and enjoy the 06 just remember it is s very very slipper slop once you start to modify these trucks.

The 06 should have to in tank pump and has proved to be reliable. I have put over 200,000 miles between the two trucks that had them and no problems. Keep a close eye on the oil level. If it starts making oil you might have an injector problem.

Welcome to TDR, now that your driving a CTD, it will never seem the same driving any other light truck (fill in the blanks) with another Diesel (fill in the blanks). BTW fill in your signature so we can see what you have, and picture's please!
