I just purchased my first new Dodge in 6 years and have a question. Is the, under the engine hood light an option I forgot to ask about when I bought my cummins Laramie. I've looked everywhere in the engine compartment for a light and fail to find one. I also noticed there was no insulation under the hood itself. I could swear that my 95 V-10 had insulation and a light. Thanks. And I would like to thank the website for bringing me over from the Ford darkside.

My new CTD doesn't either... My '98 360 had the insulation and a light. Of course I took it off for the cowl induction hood to work...

I looked at the fanciest Laramie equipped rig they have - no light.

It kind of looks like theres a place for one though. There's an oddly placed rectangular hole in the middle, bottom (windshield end) of the hood. Maybe someday Dodge will offer one but until then I think I'm gonna go to the Junk yard and find a nice one out of a late model rig. Does anyone here have a better idea?

By the way K, welcome to the club! What made you change your tastes?

There is an option called lamp group that includes the underhood light, lighted vanity mirrors and a couple other things I dont recall that is late availibility. Dont ask me why. I figure the way things went down with the insulation is they went hey its so much quieter we can get away without it and save a few cents on every truck. Poor move because repeat buyers (which are important in the full size truck market) had it and miss it on the new truck. If your like me you will call the dealer after you get the truck home to tell them they forgot to put in the rear floor mats. Thats when you find out they dont come with any. Yep, their top of the line truck with a 40000 dollor retail price point and no rear floor mats. I still cant believe it. And what about the lack of a locking fuel door. An el cheapo ricer has one but not your new truck. I love my truck but there are a few downers.

I got every option I could with the Laramie and no light under the hood. I agree with fireman that they weren't that great in the first place, I just keep a flashlight handy. The rear floormats(none)..... now that's a sore spot with me. I also wish they left the insulation on under the hood, it might stiffen up the thin sheet metal.

So it takes a Canadian to figure dis out for ya, eh? DC didn't put a light under da hood 'cause der ain't never anything gonna go wrong under der, eh? :D :D

The only thing that ever went wrong under the hood of the last one was that the little light bulb under there broke. ;) It's the only thing Inever fixed.

I'm all for no underhood insulation. The trucks don't need it any more. Mice got into the insulation on my 2nd gen and used it to build a nest on the engine head.

Good riddance. :)

I belive that chrysler stopped using the insulation to lower underhood tempatures. The gen 3's have a smaller engine compartment and pretty soon there will be egr valves to. All of these things create higher temps and insulation would just help retain that heat.

I called the dealer and none on the lot have lights. Man I should have kept the Ford. LOL. I fail to understand it. Since it's Hecho in Mexico, what would the cost be to add the light? 50 or 60 cents. Hope they got the rest of it right. In response to the why leave Ford, the reason I went with Ford was too get a one ton CC SRW. Then Dodge had to muck it up and finally get to the real world. Besides my 2002 had electrical problems which couldn't be fixed. As a side note I really am impressed with the new Dodge and hope it's even better than the V-10 I previously owned.

Dave, I had the mouse problem too! Poor little guy liked my plugged-in block heater when it was zero outside.

Maybe D-C deleted the insulation to reduce under-hood temperature buildup. I won't miss it, the one on my '95 absorbs more dirt than sound.
