So, I'm not exactly a veteran here. I'm also new to the notion of preventative maintenance. :( I'd like to head off anything before it actually happens this time.

Truck is 01. 5, quad cab 4x4. no engine mods beyond k&n. 184k mi. , mostly highway. (bought it with 60k almost 3 yrs ago)

In the last month or so, its been taking the starter a little longer than usual to start the engine and then in the last two weeks, my voltage gauge started pegging at 18+ volts. It happens at highway speeds and usually goes away when back off the highway and at idle. Mileage (16. 5-18) hasn't changed.

Codes are 1594, 0500 and 1693 (PCU), and 1693 and 0576 (ECU).

Please tell me I've just got to change the batteries or something else simple.

Any help would be great!

As an aside, I've got an APPS situation that I've not seen in the forum. My truck goes into some kind of safe mode or something with no throttle response almost every time I try to use the cruise control. It also threw the APPS code, I don't remember the number because I haven't used the cruise in a year or more and it's not happened since. Just thought I'd share that. Sorry if it's off topic. Just thought I'd throw it out there. :)

0500 = Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit

0576 = Cruise Control Related Malfunction

1594 = Charging system voltage too high

1693 = DTC detected in companion module

Kevin,

Thanks for the 0576, I hadn't found that on lists yet.

Now, what to do about this? How worried should I be? What should be my first move? I don't want to just drive to the you-know-where and bend over...
