Hi guys, this is my third Ram -98' 1500 gas for 9 years, 06' 2500 TD for 11 and now my 3500 TD. I've been driving Ram's for the last 20 years and I enjoy maintaining them myself when I can.

My new 3500 Tradesman just got it's first oil change yesterday, it went like this... I loosened the fill cap, drained the oil, changed the "hella messy and hardly accessible" oil filter (filled 1/2 full of oil and lubed ring), replaced my drain plug and filled with 12 quarts Valvoline 15-40 HD diesel. Aside from the oil I spilled all over my frame getting the filter out, all went well.

Can someone walk me the same way through my fuel filter and chassis filter change? I ordered them through Geno's and they'll be here soon.
I've changed the filter in the 2500... drain housing, pop the top, replace cartridge and O ring, prime gas 3X's or fill with sea foam inj. cleaner and start.

Also, why are the chassis mount filters equipped with a drain and some of you tell me to replace the same time as my Nanonet?

Thanks people's,

I have just been through it all myself. After the oil change the filters were easy. First the engine mounted filter. L/h side of engine 29 mm short socket with a 12" extension with a u-joint on the socket end. I use a long 1/2 " drive 24" breaker bar. Loosen yellow knob 1/4 turn c- clockwise put pan under. let drain. Remove cap off filter housing.(Cap will be very tight) I thought I was going to brake the plastic cap. Remove filter element and install new o-ring after you thouroughly lube it up. I use Comp Cams engine assy. lube. Close Valve 1/2 turn clockwise Reinstall cap. Rear filter, Disconnect wire harness at Water sensor. Put pan under and open valve drain filter, I use a large oil filter wrench to loosen filter element. I take old filter to the vice and gently remove water sensor. Reinstall on new filter with new lubed up o-ring. Install new lubed O-ring on the main filter and install by hand and tighten another 1/2 turn. Re connect water sensor harness. Cycle ignition 4 times for 30 seconds before you start engine. Best of luck. Scotty

I swore I was gonna break the cap on the engine mounted filter cap. A 24" 1/2" drive breaker bar adapted to a 3/8" X 12" extension with a universal joint and a 29mm 6pt socket on a plastic filter housing. Really ? It was gonna came off or else. $ 100 bucks for Mopar fuel filters on E-bay. Engine oil $17.00 bucks a gallon x3, oil filters $15.00 and don't forget the Air Filter at the local dealer $34.95.I hear you I just changed rear diff lube too. 4 quarts Amsoil 75/90 syn gear oil, $16.50 a qt plus shipping, their is another $100. I have a 2014 Ram 3500 Laramie Crew cab I purchased in June with 36k on the clock. A great truck makes it all worthwhile.

my 2017 3500 crew cab long box tradesman is just a slob. The turning radius is lousy, the aerodynamics are horrible and it sits so high I can't see curbs or small walls. I haven't hit anything yet but damn! I've been driving trucks since 91' and never had this much blind spot area ever. It doesn't fit anywhere in the city either, I have to park all the way out cause these damn Prius' cars only need 4 square feet to park and their painting the lines closer and closer to accommodate the overpopulation here in Mexico... I mean California. No way a dually... thats why I bought a tradesman. With that said... I wouldn't trade it for 2 Silverado's or 3 F350.

I just posted this on another thread:

RAM calls for 15K mile changes of the fuel filters. You need a 28MM 6 point socket (29MM is wrong size, noted above) https://www.genosgarage.com/product/...kti28128/tools for the engine mounted filter and a water sensor wrench for the rear filter https://www.genosgarage.com/product/lisle-34900/tools . Also a strap wrench works well for the rear filter removal https://www.genosgarage.com/category...d=strap+wrench . A piece of plastic tubing about 18" long that fits the bib to drain the rear filter will also fit inside the hose on the front filter for draining it. Snoking

Lisle Part#14600 29mm 6pt socket, Google it. Fit is perfect...

29 mm socket is one mm "loose" however it will work most of the time, however if you round off the corners, a 28mm might not do that, as it is the correct size. I worked with Geno's to resolve this as they we selling a 29mm by mistake. SnoKing

Any of my 28mm sockets will not fit without beating it on with a hammer. I purchased Lisle#14600 fuel filter socket at my local auto parts store for $9.35 and it has worked flawlessly for me.

I ordered the wrenches that Geno was selling with the product... I hope he resolved it before I ordered. For $6 bucks here and there it's worth it to have the tools that fit and thanx for the tip on the tubing, the viscosity of my oil was so broken down it splash all over when it hit the oil pan and mad a mess on my concrete. Mental note: use an old piece of carpet next time.

Some of us change the oil filter from the top. No spills and you can pre-fill the filter fully.

Also Geno's sales a screw on top/cap for the filter replacement.

It's almost like a social movement.....or a cult.....or something. Lines have been drawn, sides have been taken. :)

1993 RAM for 7 years, 2001.5 RAM for 14 years, 2015 RAM for 2 years. Oil filter has always been changed from the top. I have the same strap wrench I bought for the 93 and still use in today.

The only time someone else changed the oil in all three, the guy left the old filter gasket on the engine of the 2001.5. Before he was finished, I ask to see the oil filter. I said where is the old gasket!!!! Whoops he said and did not charge me for the work. I had provided the Fleetguard filter and Delo 400.

On the B150 Cummins in the boat I had to change the filter one handed blind from behind the engines for 19 years. With left space between the Starboard engine a fuel tank. Conversely working on the left side of the port engine was difficult. So a nice clean shot from the top on trucks in a pleasure.
