Optional diesel at the pump??

Thats the same v10 that is offered in the Touareg. It's still debated when or if we're going to get it in the US, but it's a sweet engine. It has won a few awards already. Basically it's two of their 2. 5L 5cyl TDI's connected...

Can you point out any other luxury sedans that can do 0-60 in less than 7 seconds, produces over 300 HP and gets 21 MPG?

I am certain that those performance numbers can be equalled by many folks on this site with their 5. 9s weighing 6500#+... ... .....

many may not have the upgrades to be luxury sedans, but they also weigh many thousands of pounds less.

just trying to give some of you folks here some respect, take it or leave it

leave 4WD on all the time and see what mileage goes to. But the modern AWD systems do improve handling on those cars. Reference is the "Quattro" system that won races on a stock bodied car against tube chassis race frames. Until it was made "illegal" to keep the race "competitive". Of course it chewed up tires and fuel to get thet handling. There are many trucks here that can compete with that car in the 1/4. Just don't try to follow it into the first turn on a road race:D If it were not for the datsuns,VWs, Audis, mercedes- doing some oddball stuff like building smaller lighter cars in the 70's, better handling cars, cars with windshield wiopers for the headlights and back window no one would have pushed the other auto makers into thinking of ways to compete. GM make the Aztec and now honda has the ELEMENT. I thought no one could build an uglier vehicle than the aztec and the japanese step up to the plate:D

Athompson,

My 2000 Lexus GS400 does 0-60 in 5. 8 seconds produces 300 HP and got me 26. 6 mpg @ 80 mph going to oregon. (made it 1176 miles out of 1203 miles before getting a ticket @ 80 mph in Arlington on the gorge hwy  )

around town mpg is not as impressive. But that car is fun

Perhaps I should have been more specific and included the torque figure as well. I doubt that the Lexus produces 550 ft-lb of torque.

diesel dan, not to disrespect the Lexus 400, but i'm reasonably confident that it does not have a tow rating of 7700#. To me, thats what makes the VW Touareg a winner, good mileage, good on road performance, great off road performance (most important to me), and great towing capability AND luxury & safety without the guilt for guzzling alot of gasoline.

Emarsh,

no disrespect taken. We are talking two diff animals. I agree that the Taureg is a great combination of what we both like. One of the few vehicles that might stop me from buying an 04CTD and as we all know that is no small feat :D

now if dodge would get off there backside and make a fullsize SUV w/ a cummins there would be no discussing it.

Best regards

well i got to tell you i may have to sell several vehicles to afford a touareg V10, but if I can get one in Calif next year I may even be willing to cut off part of me that is very dear to me to get one! Seriously, for me, this is the most exciting vehicle to come out in a long time. It simply fits my needs very well. I have followed it since The US introduction at the LA auto show. I drove a V8 two weeks ago and it will be hard for me to wait for the V-10. I doubt that i will ever own a Ford product (or other american make) truck or SUV in the future after driving the touareg with that wonderfull japanese 6 speed auto transmission, that thing is simply awesome in action. I'm tellin you guys, don't drive one of these unless you have incredible willpower not to buy one!
