Went to order today and the salesman said "Bad news on getting a 2004. The door just shut. They cancelled 27 of our trucks and all trucks from here will be a 2005 with more hp/torque. They are advancing timing and turning up the pump. " He said they were not telling him much more because they want to sell the trucks on the ground.

I wanted a 2004 because the new cat will be hotter and I roam the prairies and do not like prairie fires. I believe the 2004 does not have a cat. Am I right? The dealer said DC told him he could put a shield on the new cat but I think I would like to avoid that. Do 2004's have a cat? geusterman

The ones around here do not. I will be changing my oil tonight and I will look again but I don't think they do.

I don't know about that Guesterman, according to this website they will be 2004. 5s starting January, not 2005s http://www.arifleet.com/production.html#chtrucks

The last order date for the Non-EPA motor is Nov. 21st. Then a gap until production of the 2004. 5 Cummins starts on January 5, 2004.

As far as canceling orders maybe your dealership doesn't have priority like others and they will get their orders through or something like that?

The EPA, EGR & aftertreatment discussion has gone on for awhile and this doesn't sound like anything new to me.

cats

2003 Calif. trucks and I assume all the other 235 HP trucks have a cat. I assume the same holds true for 2004 trucks.

2004/2005

Hi Guys, been away for a while... .

My dealer just called and said that he just got a Chrysler email that said there will be a press announcement on December 10 regarding the 50 state legal HO that is coming out January of next year. He said there were no specifics except the following:

Best in class towing-

Most HP in class-

Quietest diesel in class-

He said the email stated that they were keeping all other details confidential until the press 'launch. '

FWIW.

Sounds like you folks have some nice trucks. I keep waiting and waiting but the time is coming to buy... ...

My best to all!

Note that all the "best in" is engine related. Good old Cummins. I guess if they don't stink as much with the new cat that they might just be more attractive..... hmmmmm geusterman

This is good enough for a new thread. Model year is now 2005 starting orders for next week. New rig has nice surprises amoung them 600lbs torque and 325hp. It is a 2005. geusterman

Ford did the same thing in mid-1997. They introduced the new Super Duty line and tagged them 1999's. It could be possible.

Just remember... DC would have to change ALL Rams to 2005s, not just diesels. The Ram is considered a single line of vehicles. And since (A) production is still humming right along for the gassers, and (B) the 2500/3500 have no effect on the corporate fuel economy (the early change to 2001s was strictly a CAFE move), there's no reason to make the switch of model years.

Gee, I guess if I buy a truck in January 2004 it will be a 2005... . Does that mean it's blue book will go UP when I drive it off the lot?:D

This is from a sorta old guy with a failing memory.

Read something a while back that a vehicle manufacturer is limited by Federal law in how they can name new vehicles as far as the year model is concerned. January 1st is the key. A particular model year can only include one January 1st. For example, a manufacturer can call a vehicle a 2005 model after January 1, 2004 (since only one January 1st date-1/1/05), but cannot call a model a 2006 in 2004 since it would include two January 1st dates (1/1/05 and 1/1/06) in the model year. Appears this is used when a redesigned model is coming out and the manufacturer has it ready to go early in the calendar year. Ford did it on the F-150 in 1997 and on the F-250 in 1999. Sounds kinda silly that there is a Federal rule, but were there not such a rule I suspect some manufacturer would be trying to sell you a 2006 model now. Doubt DC will do this with the new Rams since there is no new body design, but who knows. Hope they don't because if they do, my 2003 truck will be two model years old instead of just one. "Ain't" it amazing the stuff you hear. Time will tell.

Crow, that's close... it's the total number of production days can't exceed 729 (2 years minus 1 day), nor can a vehicle be produced AFTER its model and calendar years coincide. So the maximum is Jan 2 of year before to Dec 31 of same year. Since manufacturers almost never get right back on the job on Jan 2, no one ever exceeds the limit.

I think they will increase the stroke slightly. Only an 6. 5% increase in HP and almost a 9 % increase in torque, so the stroke will probably be longer. Longer burn time for the fuel, increasing efficiency.

My thoughts. :D
