Big Nasty do mean like using our imagination while playing Cowboy against Indians, USA Military (Marines, Navy,Army,Airforce) against our enemies (Japs, Germans,Russians... ).

Most children know games are make believe but there are a few that can not sepreate reality from make believe.

More like baseball, football, running, gymnastics,swimming,basketball,skateboards, bikes, NICE TRY ANYWAY!!!

I taught in inner city schools and alternative schools in predominant white community. The kids are a credit to their parents or lack of. In giving every opportunity possible to provide a means of uplifting themselves, teaching personal responsibility, and self sufficiency, every day I asked myself "will we ever feel as though we accomplished anything". The problem is that our society is morally bankrupt and everything that happens negatively is reponded to with a knee jerk reaction to suit an agenda that has evidenced itself throughout history. A history that shows when citizens are deprived of self protection they are also deprived of true freedom as we know it. Just reflect on history- a history that doesn't require too distant a past. It is another form of the same censorship being attempted via fcc,epa, and the rest of the alphabet soup of agencies in DC. The left would have us reduced to either none or single shot muskets that are as outdated as a manual typewriter. Our Constitution provides a set of freedoms with responsibilities, rights with moral judgement, and a sense of purpose to maintain those freedoms that led our forefathers from opprression. I do remember that "you can't fix stupid and you can't argue with ignorance". To paraphrase Winston Churchill, 'socialism is a fine idea until they run out of money'. Wait until the money runs out! And to diesel4life, the idea of more taxes for whose benefit? How is the cost of living including our precious diesel fuel working out for you? What is the dollar worth? How many schools would be able to afford police presence in schools which many already employ(I worked in one) with the 20 plus million dollars a certain executive has spent on the past 4 years of Christmas Vacations not to mention all the other extravaganzas. Back to basics not spending more. How about spending less and wasting less on cronyism. Since being a member since early 2003, notice I don't have a lot to say. Have a good day.

You may think you don't have a lot to say but I am glad that you showed up here and posted your thoughts from a public school insider's perspective.

I believe you misunserstood me. I was referring to the idea of every public school posting armed guards at their doors. I said unless taxes are raised or additional levees passed it will never happen, at least in our part of the country. Our schools would never be able to afford it, they cant even afford to operate on the budgets their given now. That doesnt mean in any way im for any tax hikes of any sort, I feel I pay more than enough on my homes as it is

Maybe your school system can, but given the current budgets of the school systems around here, its not feasible without some major changes. Busing, sports, and extra curricular classes have all been cut in the last few years locally. Now teachers are losing their jobs. They had to go and build a state of the art multi million dollar school when the former school merely needed some minor updates and now they cant afford to run it. 3 consecutive levees were passed for operational expenses and with the passing of every levee has come more cuts. I agree there is no price on safety (I have 2 children in the school system) but first the BOE has to figure out how to budget what theyve got. I dont know the answers, but I do know the problem all started with the addition of our new school. And from what Ive seen and heard visiting friends and family in other areas, the problems are not that different.

The experiences I was afforded by giving to society in return for a sense of contribution and certainly not for the salary, exposed the waste in our schools which is but another part of the government tentacles that encompass all of us. We frisked every student entering the building in which I taught every day. I had to be certified every year to be able to "restrain" an out of control student. Some schools have detectors like you experience going into most governmental buildings today. Ever heard the expression "the dumbing down of America"? Now the calculator is acceptable on the SAT and other testing devices intended to score an individuals mental skills. Look at the young people of today who are over the top when it comes to self-esteem and not so hot when it comes to putting money where the mouth is. Not all as there will always be an exception. I came to this conclusion 25 years ago that mediocrity rules the world with incompetence a photo finish second. I am sick and tired of taking a truck/auto(and at today's prices at major garages) to be repaired only to have the same problem it was taken in for and take it back to lick their calf. My dad said "if you don't have time to do it right the first time, how in the ... . are you going to find time to do it twice!!"
Everyone in society needs to stay in a classroom in public schools and teach at least a year to fully understand the waste of human talent, resources, and yes money. The issue is moral bankruptcy and as stated by another member the lack of God in our schools and lives. I was a precocious child who would be in jail today but the between the Ten Commandments, mother dragging me to church, and the Boy Scouts and all the other adults of divine moral character and integrity enabled me to have a foundation of the Golden Rule and right from wrong that is missing in so many young people and even older folks lives.
Getting back to basics is exactly that. It ain't the sizzle that everyone sells but the steak. Basics not frills.
Basics which instill basic goodness and decency. Basics that require justice not that it is ok by "the law". John Maxwell books or bibles are excellent reads that teach leadership based on Biblical principles. To have leadership qualities doesn't require an individual to be the leader of anything but himself/herself and set examples for the rest of our communities and society.
Money fixes nothing but does corrupt. Read the book "Throw Them All Out" by Aaron Klein which documents the outrageous cronyism of an administration and congressional members whose shout to the heavens was transparency. What kind of example does that set? How do you feel about a policeman doing 80mph in a 55mph zone and you get a ticket for 62mph.
Spirituallity and a moral compass gives a life that is fulfilling, prosperous, and full of joy. Unfortunately our leaders have very little of this. We have a POTUS who talks to people and about people the way I would expect some smart aleck on the playground in middle school. So it is ok to lie if you are a politician? In my day, even the students wouldn't tolerate that kind of childishness.
I understand your point and I also hope you can see that everything we cherish as Americans has been under attack under the radar as we slept but now it is in our face. Some famous person said we are only one generation of losing what many Americans since our inception have fought and died for. May God Bless you and your family and God Bless the USA.
