I have a 1995 3500 4wd. The upgrades are an AFE cold air filter, a 4" straight through exhaust, a #5 torque plate and a 16cm turbo housing.

My questions:

1. What is the highest SAFE EGT I can maintain while towing? I have been told that after 1250 things start to melt, and that 1350 "all day" was OK. My EGT sensor is pre-turbo.

2. What can I do to lower the EGT, especially while towing a 12,000# trailer?

3. What about advancing the timing?

4. I think I could benefit from an upgrade to the govenor springs, but I don't fully understand why.

5. what about upgrading the AFC springs? And why?

6. Larger fuel injectors?

7. New truck? ;-) They are practically giving them away lately. I love my truck. It is one hard working beast that loves a 2 ton load!

I run around town with no smoke when loaded, but when empty it smokes. I have not adjusted the AFC because I'm not sure how to do it right or if I need to do it in the first place. However, my primary concern is towing. I can live with whatever I get around town.

YIKES! HELP!

I would say to do the 3000 rpm gov springs. Stock trucks will start defueling at about 2200 rpms. The spring kit will keep fueling the engine beyond that and makes a world of difference. If I am towing, I will let it hit 1200 degress, but will quickly back out of the throttle a bit and temps will come down. If you are going to larger injectors, I will think you need to upgrade your turbo to get some more air thru the engine to burn the added fuel and to keep the exhaust temps down. I know some people have been happy with the aftermarket intercoolers.
