My sons got my old 96 with the #11 all the way forward, egt and boost guages, and the cat and muffler fell off. Trucks got 173k, so clutch is next, but he is wondering what he should do after that. Truck will hit 40 psi. with stock turbo. He wants more power but doesn't want to start breaking expensive stuff.

Thanks,

Pat

Piers' GSK (Governor Spring Kit) seems like the next logical step... .

I can't say enough good things about how much of a HUGE difference it has made to each and every truck I have installed it in.....

Tell him to watch his EGT's... . those manual transmission pumps will put out a ton of fuel and will get hot quick with a stock turbo/exhaust setup.

With the 3k GSK and current set up what would be the new redline so to speak? The egt guage moves like my tach if I get some different fuel but on my last trip it was pretty good, didn't get real hot if I got on it, but I watch it more than about anything.

Would injectors help? I would like to be around 350 hp, but I think once I go there it just won't stop, I don't have that kind of selfcontrol!!! Truck also has 17 deg. of timing. Thanks

Shane (Pat's son and soon to be member)

With the 3k GSK... your new 'redline' will be right around 3krpm... . just like the name implies. Before the GSK, my truck would rev to 3krpm... . but it would defuel at around 2400rpm or so... . now it defuels much later... probably around 2900 or so..... that's the whole idea behind the GSK... . delay the point at which it begins to defuel and you have more power throughout the entire rpm range.

The 17* of timing will certainly help out your top end power and EGT and will really come into play with larger injectors.

You can get 350hp at the wheels with a plate and injectors... . 370's will do... . with your pump. 350 is about the maximum that the stock turbo will be able to handle..... remember, beyond 35psi... the stock turbo is beyond it's efficiency range on the compressor map... . then you have to upgrade to an HX40 or larger... or TWINS!

Look into getting a 14cm non-wastegated turbine housing for your stock HX-35 turbo... . you will see a nice reduction in EGT's that will become very evident with 370's and other fueling mods.

Hope this helps,

Matt

Thanks a million for the advice, of course cash flow is always a factor. Will the GSk do anything bad? I know there is the 4k kit but I just don't think I want to rev that high, but the more I read the more I am considering the 3k GSK.

This stuff is just too fun!!! What do the 14cm housing run? $ wise. will it increase the lag significantly? Once again thanks alot.

Shane

I installed a 3k GSK last weekend. The new limit is NOT 3k!! Mine quickly and easily went right thru 3400, so I will have to be careful and use my brain as the rev limiter. The limiting factor is valve float at around 3500... somewhere just above 4200 the bottom end takes a vacation. The GSK kit is a bargain for what it does. 370 injectors arent very pricey... go gradually, and enjoy the ride! (oops, sorry... . thats an old Nissan ad).

14cm housing is like $150 - lag shouldn't be too bad... . but that is easily solved with MORE FUEL! :D

Some trucks will go past the 3k limit, some won't. Mine doesn't..... but even if it did... . I'd just keep an eye on the "hot gauge" and make sure it doesn't stay at 1500* too long...
