Hello guys,

Member of the 12v crowd now, but I'm checking out a nice 24v. It's a 2001 2500 4x4 5spd QC LB Burgundy w/silver rockers; 136,000 mi . Looks very nice, interior in good shape, can't get in, or under hood as it was after hours at the carlot. Has rear discs, does this make it 01. 5? Doesn't have many leaks, main one is from crankcase breather bottle missing. 55 block. The're asking 17,800, but gonna try for 16,000. What do yall think? Thanks

Steven

Does the price sound kinda reasonable? KBB put it at about 18. 5-19 retail. Also has sprayed in bedliner, stainless fender trim, gooseneck hitch, prob tow package as it has overloads. It also has a new tailgate :-laf see gooseneck hitch above

I'm really a first gen guy, but I need something for a daily driver/tow truck so I can fix my 91 like I want :D :D .

Thanks, Steven

I'd offer 15k as a place to start. It's been a tow vehicle for god knows what and for how long? Use that as leverage to allow the lot guy to work up to the 16k you seem to feel comfortable with.

Sounds like a nice truck.

I almost got a 1st gen 2500, DX, 4X4 auto, CTD (of course) Blue over Silver with only 105k. It had the rubber pads on top of the bumpers and was a real pretty truck and drove very well too. The WIF light was on and I told the dealership that needed to be addressed. When I came back with check in hand to pick it up I looked under the hood and their way of addressing the WIF issues was unplugging the WIF wires. :( I told the salesman about this, plugged wires back in and sure enough WIF light back on. I told him this, "deal blower, by, by", and walked off the lot waving the check above my head. I really liked the rugged look of the 1st gen, too bad. :{ I know the WIF was a minor issue but, they changed the price on me to 14k after I was told 12k. I was willing to buy it if they fixed certain things. So, if their way of fixing the WIF light was to disconnect it - what else were they hiding? Rat b@sta$ds!

I think it a nice truck, just wish it was 6spd instead of 5.

I haven't been able to talk to them yet, had to work today but dad went and drove it. He said they didn't want to talk about anything under 17,000.

Steven

Look over the engine when you get a chance and take it for a drive. If you think it is a good deal, then go for it. .

Does it have a new clutch and have they changed the brakes. Yes it is a 01. 5 with disc.

I changed my original factory clutch at 170,144 and factory brakes at 172,000.

Good luck on your decision. ;)

I have an appointment Monday at 7:30 am with the dealer. Will know more then.

Gonna try for less than $17,000; but this price seems to be in line with those in the TDR classifieds.

Thanks,

Steven

Sorry if someone already answered this, but my truck is an early '01, build date of 12/00, and it has rear disk! Good luck! :)

Okay, thanks for the info guys.

I drove it this morning, verrrry nice. Pulls like a beast all the way to redline :D :D (4. 10 rears) Shifts great, everything works. Checked turbo, seems ok, no excessive play. Checked codes with my scan tool, none to be found(I did drive it before I checked them). Starts great cold, almost as fast as my 91.

I can only get them down to 17,000. Aint a heck of a deal, but it is a very nice truck. NADA and KBB list retail at about 18. 5-19,000.

Beach, this truck was built 9/00 and it has discs  This truck brakes very good. It also has a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller, I thought that was a nice plus, even though I dont own any trailers with brakes

I'm probably going to bring it home Oo. Can't wait.

Steven

these damn dealers are crooks i have basically the same truck except the auto and 60,000 more so a few more but probly only a thousand or less dollars diffrence  and they would only give me $8,000 dollars trade during dodges super duper factory pricing! my truck has leather seats sport package and super nice custom built flat bed the interior is also super clean. so that means the dealer will probly soak up 9 grand profit depending on when they bought it i talked to another dealer not during dealer pricing and they would give ten thousand so thats still at least 5 or 6 thousand dollars the *******s wiil soak up! anyway i love my truck and i just put a $4,000 dtt bilet transmission in so i aint givin it one of these crooks!

SAndreasen, typically, on any deal, most dealerships will pocket nearly 3-4k in profit. On some deals, their profit will be less, but on some, they will be horribly more. Just have to leave it to dumb consumers who think that the dealership is there in their best interests... CAROLINA CUMMINS, sounds like a reasonable deal. I bought a 98. 5 in Nov 2005, and paid around 16k for it. I didn't realize it, but it had a gooseneck hitch under the rubber mat in the bed. Heck, the dealership hadn't even done their detail job on it, so I got to see it in all it's glory, after the prior owner traded it in. I ended up with about $5-6 in change, and a really nice marble blue "tobacco" pipe that was hiding under a seat cover. Hell, I even found the original owners US Army Corp of Engineers ID with his SSN on it under the center console. It was nice talking to the first owner of the truck. I had the dealer replace a leaky power steering pump, but since then, mechanically, the only thing I've had to change is the LP. I would say, if you can get it for $17k out the door, go for it. I would also say, when dealing with the dealership, always negotiate in out the door fashion, meaning the price includes sales tax, license, and any other fees.

It probably doesnt have one but did you check for 53 Block? If it does I dont know if I would do the deal for $17K please check that before you buy. I have been in your shoes too, luckily I asked around and turned down a really nice 99 because of it, a few months later my 01 fell right in my lap super cheap without a 53 block.

Tobacco huh? Wow its amazing what people will smoke out of these days!
Just kidding had to say it!
It dose sound like a great deal! I gave 19,000 for mine, The previous owner was the service manager of the dealership! No Problems, every recall , everything that could be put on warnt. and then some!
No scratches! So if a deal comes along id take it!

Hey guys, thanks for all the help.

elandon - Nope, no 53, this one has a 55 block(one of the first things I checked).

This truck is at a small car lot near the house, they always have one nice Cummins on the lot, this one is by far the best looking one I have seen there.

All I have left is to fill out the insurance paperwork and pick it up :D I know it isn't the best deal, but it'll do

I've done got a list of bombs about a mile long :-laf shoulda borrowed another $17,000 for them

Maybe I'll get some pics up in a day or so.

Thanks, Steven

This brings up an interesting point. How you do you tell which block we have? What are the differences between the 55 and the 53? Sorry to hijack the thread, if someone wants to PM me on what to look for, I'd appreciate it. Also, Lunderwood(sp), yeah, tobacco... It even smelled like "tobacco"... I, uh, er, got rid of it right away... Also, fun to note, I found two 30-06 live shells and two 12 gauge shells. Nothing like mixing guns and "tobacco. " :--)
