Is there suppost to be a hole on the engine facing side of the factory airbox lid? I just noticed it this morning but it looks like it is above where the air is filtered because it is on the lid. I'm wondering if the previous owner modified it for a sensor or is this an OEM thing. I'll post a pic later this morning.

It might be for the filter minder. I don't know about the third generation trucks, but the second generation trucks have a filter minder on the stock air box. It's basically a clear round spring loaded device that it is supposed to let you know when your air filter needs changing. Sounds like your air box is missing the filter minder. Not really a big deal. -Glen

Glen is probably right on the filter minder. I would at least plug it... ... . its letting unfiltered air in your engine.

Paul is right you should plug the hole. It's been a while since I've had a stock air box on my truck, but the filter minder is on the filtered side (top half) of the air box. -Glen

Man, what a rip. You might want to have the dealer document that somewhere when they give you a filter minder. Who knows what kind of crap could have been sucked in unfiltered (road dirt, bug guts, mice  ). Dang, could you imagine a mouse going through the turbo? #ad

Thanks guys... as I said I just noticed it this morning although it was just at the dealership for a TSB and A/C fix... hmmm.

I'm getting ready for a 3000 mile road trip for Thanksgiving so I wanted to make sure everythings a go... I'll at least throw some duct tape over it until I can get a new filter minder.

Anyone have a spare Filter Minder off their old air box... The dealership of coarse says they don't have it. It runs $36 at the parts counter! for now I'm just going to duct tape it until I get an AFE intake or something.

iF YOU HAVE TIME BRING IT over. Tbob I,m in Henderson. -- email address removed --

find your self a low pressure gauge [like 0-30 inches H2O vacuum] and pipe it to that hole. then you can see in cab what the restriction is. you can also buy filter restriction gauges. i think stewart warner is the one who makes it 5"-40" h20 restriction.

Wow... that is a cool idea. I've got to do that some day.

Duct tape is not a good answer you are liable to suck it in. Plug that hole with something that can withstand a GOOD amount of vacuum, and keep the dirt out.
