Need a little help here buds. My niece lost her dad some time ago and I'm trying to pick up the slack. Her 2003 3500 left her afoot in Los Banos CA with a failed lift pump. It is at the Dodge dealer there. The dealer is telling her the LP is on national back order. Any idea if a dealer will install a LP purcahsed from a Cummins dealer. They are also telling her that there was a bunch of crap in her fuel filter. I changed her fuel filter at Christmas time less than 6,000 miles ago all was well at that time. . Once she gets to school at Cal Poly in San Luis obispo. I want her to have a fuel pressure gauge installed. She rodeos and really needs to have her truck not strand her. Does any body know of a good shop near her. The truck is bone stock any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. note to moderator. Sorry for posting this in two forums but I'm in a little bind here

I would think that if a lift pump could be had, the dealer would install it for her (probably have to pay labor). If you bought it from Cummins, it would probably not be covered under warranty, but at this point you probably don't care. If the dealer is great, and you brought them a lift pump, they would install it under warranty (providing the truck is still covered by warranty), but they obviously are not obligated to. Good dealers like this are hard to find.

I am in Texas so I can't tell you much about shops in your area. A fuel pressure gauge is a good idea along with at least a EGT gauge.

I hope this helps and good luck to you. Sorry about your troubles.

Bump to the top... So where are all the California guys? I'd be all over the opportunity to help a young lady with a diesel truck and likes to go to rodeos!!

My brother might have one around or might be able to get one fast. His name is Richard and the # is 559-355-4433. His shop is in Riverdale, but that is about 90 minutes away,

Dan Biggs @ Villa Automotive at the bottom of South street, here in SLO does a good job of installing gauges. Fair price on labor as well. 805 781 3925 (34 South St. ) She still stuck up there?

I'm in Nor Cal. I just had a lift pump go last week and was told it would be a week, it took 3 days. Point is; I was told they were on back order, but they are out there. Grab a manager and insist he start making phone calls to get one. This was the second pump in 4 months. I have not a clue about why, but is there any connection between the open vent holes on top of the gas tank, 6k miles taking out a filter and many failed lift pumps.

Thanks for the replies folks. Her roomate drove to Los Banos and got my niece, the trailer and the horses so the emrgency is over ,now we just need to get the truck fixed. I will follow up on all the good info here. Many thanks to all Steve
