OK Guys could you ever have a better rig for a

3208 conversion

I am considering a conversion in a late model Nissan truck, using a SD25 diesel engine out of a forklift. The engine is near perfect, is an "all iron" engine (head and block), is of the "L" design (intake and exhaust on same side of head) and would be a GREAT candidate for a turbocharger. This engine was offered as a turbo version in Japanese market forklifts and in overseas trucks. It, along with it's older "sister" the SD22, was also offered in Nissan/Datsun trucks in the early to mid 80's. I want to repower a late model Nissan truck. Have any of yall done or heard of anyone doing this? I can probably get the turbo, fittings and manifolds through the forklift parts book for Japanese forklifts, but will need a flywheel and bellhousing. The lift is complete but the automatic transmission crapped out. Engine and accessories are all there and operational. Thanks for any help!

One thing to consider is the fuel pump governor. Industrial engines, including fork lifts, run at a different RPM range than an automotive engine. Cam timing is usually different as well. Another related item is the rear axle ratio. This too has to be considered with regards to engine RPM. What is the RPM range of the old engine compared to the diesel? Shadrach

This engine has a mechanical fuel pump and the RPMs can be turned up easily. Forklift engines are usually governed at 2,400-2,500 RPM, which would actually probably be fine. Rear axle ratio on many of these little trucks is in the neighborhood of 4. 10:1 and I could "speed it up" a little with some taller tires. I am mostly concerned about mating the engine to a manual transmission. I would even consider getting a trans from an overseas truck with this engine if necessary. I just think this will make a neat and unique project. Thanks for any advice!
