Well I am just wanting to educate myself on Nitrous. . I searched and didnt find much... What kits are out there and which ones are preferred?? How much hp gain can be expected with single shot of Nitrous, and dual shot of nitrous?? How long will a 10 lb bottle of nitrous last?? What are the advantages, and disadvantages of nitrous?? How much does it cost to fill a 10lb bottle? How hard is nitrous on the engine? Thanks:)

I am interested in the nitrous and water meth. Which is the safer to use in a diesel? Cost of operation verses benefit?

Thanks,

Bill

I'm pretty ignorant on nitrous, but for cost of operation it's got to be water/meth hands down. You just use windshield washer fluid (winter blend is best) that costs a buck something a gallon that you can pick up at Walmart or any auto parts store. The Snow Perf site says that one washer tank full will last you about one tank of fuel. Nitrous bottles have to be filled frequently, and you can't do it at Walmart. I've been told to forget nitrous for daily driving because you go through it too fast.

fill up the water/meth tank with every diesel fill up? I think not..... unless they are talking about a bigger tank than comes in the kit.

I sprayed meth about 7 or 8 times and my tank was empty. 2 dyno runs and then playing on the street afterwards.

believe it or not, nitrous is safer on head gaskets than meth or propane due to the point of detonation.

Snow is talking about the windshield washer reservoir, not the dorky tank that comes with the kit. Here's the full quote from their FAQ:

7. How long does the fluid last?

<snip>

Snow Performance's own 2004 Dodge Cummins 1-ton dually uses the factory washer tank. During normal around town driving, we get a full tank of fuel out of a full tank of fluid.

Of course, it doesn't say what nozzles they were using. Which nozzles were you using, and was it their Stage 2 kit or the earlier version? The Stage 2 is supposed to be more miserly with the water/meth than the original kit.

I believed you... .

but that statement by snow is stupid. it depends on how you have it set up. I could set mine to last 3 tanks of diesel but i wouldn't be using it to its fullest capability.

i had the 2 biggest nozzles installed and had mine to FULL spray with any boost at all. I used the on/off switch as an injection button basically. I could hold 15psi building boost, hit the meth switch, and the brake pedal would go useless. all 4 wheels would spin. 7 or 8 times like that and the tank was empty, completely.

Stupid question here- Why is Water/Meth harder on headgaskets than Nitrous?

I have been thinking of getting that stage 3 snow or the coolingmist system and want to set it up for cooling purposes only. Don't want to put too much to the motor and have been thinking of the 8 gallon tank that snow has. Someone direct me in the correct path.

In answer to your questions
1- A home built system will save you some money
2- A single stage is worth about 150 hp max{exceptions exist}
3- 2 stages will be more useable with gains up to 300hp{maybe more}
4- A 10# bottle will not last more than a couple of 1340 runs
5- You can add n2o until you get lower power, and then back off the jet 1 or 2 sizes without concern. [If you have head gasket upgrades as well as other supporting items]
6- Disadvantage is cost for the gas. 35$ -40$ for a 10# bottle. cost for setup is about 50% less than propane. About the same for water/meth. Propane is less expensive per #, water/meth is cheap.
7- How hard is N20? Well that depends on how much you inject, and how much fuel you have. Like any other power adder you can add too much for the particular set up
In conclusion I would recommend N2o over the others as a pure power adder with no regrets. RAY
