Last 3 sets of Michelin LT285/70R17 M/S [ATX] wore excessively at the rear even with 90 psig, for hauling Hitchhiker 3 times a year. Oh well, I found the LT285/70R17 Dura Grapplers were "E" rated, e.g. 500#+ more per tire. So, a guy's gotta do.......

At 41,974 miles the ride got real bumpy; the LR developed a 'bubble' type ply separation, replaced it with the spare. 3 weeks later the ride got real bumpy; the RR was egg shaped due to what was diagnosed as a cord failure; plumb ran out of spares! 9/32" remain of orig. 15/32". called TireBuyer and received warranty claim form. I have no clue what to expect.

P.S. 6 months after wearing the Nitto's, we replaced our 5th wheel with a lighter, slightly smaller model! I hope the new Michelin Defender's are up to the task, otherwise I might be facing 18"-19" rims with higher load rated tires for a lot more $$$ eh.

Travel safe & play safer.

That's a bummer to hear you had problems with your nits. So far I've been very happy with my terra grappler g2's but I guess I'll keep a closer eye on them now

My last set of Michelin M/S2 tires failed prematurely. I had to replace them immediately and did not have a lot of choice so ended up with Yokohamas. So far they seem okay. The Hankooks are quite popular in my area at this time and seem to be okay. I really hope Michelin is making a good tire again as I liked them before.

I've never had a problem with a Michelin tire, and I've been running them under my trucks and previous 5th wheels for many years. I'm running the LTX M/S2s (taken off of my 2011 at trade-in with 2000 miles - tires purchased in February 2016) on my 2016 Ram without any problems whatsoever.

The only problem I had with the Michelins was that they had lousy wet traction. The Toyo AT's were only a little better and the new General AT's blow them both out of the water in that regard.

You'll never see another General on anything I own. A factory OEM General AmeriTrac TR came apart on the inside right dual on my 2011 Ram at 25,000 miles, cleaned out everything under the rear fender, rolled the bottom of the fender under, crushed the exhaust, bent the bumper, etc. Total damages were over $4,000.

The egg shape and tread separation didn't have anything to do with running 90psi did it? What was your rear axle weight with that camper?

Where did you get the impression that I was running 90 PSIG? The OEM General AmeriTrac TRs were notorious for tread/ply separations. I'm not the only one who has experienced them.

The OP stated he was running 90 psi in a tire rated for 80psi @ around 3195 lbs, so either he is running over inflated or overloaded, neither of which can be blamed on the tire.

None of which has anything to do with my post that you quoted. He wasn't running Generals that came apart like mine, and I wasn't running 90 PSIG in the General that came apart.

Where do you get the impression I quoted your post?

The egg shaped comment and pressure comment are directly related to the OP post. You didn't make mention of either in any of your posts.

Perhaps I should have directly quoted Walters post so there was no confusion?
