Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) No acceleration on first start

update on my truck, the Water in Fuel light came on this morning. Noticed it before I got down the street, opened up the drain valve on the fuel filter assembly and didn't notice any water. Looked like fuel coming out so I closed it back up. Bumped the starter once to make sure I replaced the fuel I drained and went on. Light went out.



Made a stop, then after I started back up the light came back on again, but only for about 20 seconds. Truck has 73000 miles and this is the first time I have seen the WIF light. Need to do some reading on what else I should do. Any ideas? Thanks.

I ended up taking my truck to another dealer. They eneded up putting on another new lift pump, as well as replacing the Injection pump. Truck is running great now. Originally was gonna codt me $1900 to have it installed. Just to be honest, I showed them the fuel sample taken from the tank, and they then told me that it won't be covered under warranty. When they called back the next day to tell me that they verified it was the injection pump, I asked again, not expecting a yes, if there was anyway to cover it under warranty (course, the tone was in my best 'i know that there is no way you can, but am asking one last time') I think I had a better chance of hitting the lottery. but to my suprise, he put me on hold for a few minutes, then told me his Service Manager said he would deal with Cummins if they have a cow about it; seeing how it wasn't really my fault----I didnt purposefully put bad fuel in it, plus we are now taking the truck stop to small claims court. Report from the state Regulatory Commission came in, so if traveling in Mississippi along I-10, do not stop at the Cone truck stop @ exit 69 in Moss Point for fuel.



On a side note, i figured out where the strange smell of burnt oil was coming from... . the slobber tube. pulled it out and while engine was running, was blowing smoke like a train engine. Not a whole lot, but never had it do that before. Could it be all the water and sludge that was passed thru before burning off? As well as the additives that were added to the fuel? Didn't do this before the last oil change, which is when this whole fuel problem reared its ugly head. Any ideas? Thanks.
