...where's the oil going?....(gasser question)

I read a little article in Truckin magazine this morning while doing the get ready routine. It said there is a law in the legislature to make aftermarket exhaust systems that increase noise level illegal. No more 4" exhaust systems for some of you guys if it passes.

What is it with Mass? They seem to have some very strict laws covering everything.

I heard in Mass you cant carry a stun-gun at all either. I dont carry one, but... . geeze gimme a break!.

I just showed my new exhaust to a sheriff deputy friend of mine tonight. He said that technically, any exhaust mod is illegal (ie. non-stock). But he said nobody would write me for it - except for possibly a state trooper - if I ticked him off. Besides, I still have a muffler under there - oh, it may look like a resonator, but it's really a muffler, officer. ;)

Seems like the NorthEast in general has many restrictions on everything.

Im not down on the NE it just seems everytime I here something about the NE it is about something that is illegal or will be soon.

examples from recent memory:

NY= no talking on cell phones will driving.

Mass= no stun-guns

Vermont= making off road diesel illegal, last I heard

Penn= no hunting on Sundays

VA= no radar detectors (thats funny)

Ah the Liberal east - those wonderful voters who tried to bring you the "inventor of the internet". I escaped from upstate NY in 1972. The Kennedys run and control Mass. no handguns at all - I wonder how many criminals read and abide by that rule. As the old saying goes it's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there - give me the West anytime. Just my opinion and as far as I know thats still legal;)

Since our trucks are certified to Federal EPA noise standards, any modifications to inlet or exhaust systems or even such items as fan clutches are technically illegal - remember all the stickers and Owner's manual warnings not to alter these systems? Having said that, I'm ready for the big honking air filter and a 4" exhaust system, but I know that I'm vulnerable if someone (law enforcement officer, annual vehicle inspection, etc. ) wants to make an issue out of it. ;)

NH, the lone holdout in the N.E.

Here in New Hampshire we're still holding out against the Libs. But as more and more "M*******s" move here to excape the taxes but still want the services and the nanny state, we in NH seem to know what it was like for Custer at Little Big Horn. Little NH was the only state in the northeast to go for Bush, thank God. And we are still holding out against exhaust inspections ... so for now my 4" exhaust is safe (though I like to drive it in Mass and punch it laying a load of black smoke on those Libs in their little convertables). :D

Yes, I used to converse with a guy from NH... he was always saying how NH is different from the rest of the NE.

I personally lived in VA (DC area) for a year working for Uncle Sam.

I have traveled all through the NE and my business partner is a New York fella.

He is always telling me these crazy stories about the laws and how all this and that is illegal.

The whole place sounds kinda communist and to me overbearing on personal freedom.

Again, I am not slamming the NE.

I often wonder how long it is gonna take us like minded folks to all end up in the same area of the country.

My business partner still has family in New York and even though he misses them... he states he will never be returning there to live because of the whole loss of freedom.

I have yet to meet a guy from the NE that once they get a taste of less restriction and crap want to go back and live.

It's not just the NE... .

Take a look at the silencer can on a motorcycle - says right there that it is illegal to increase the noise level.

Government needs to butt out!

When the government drones start making my truck payments for me, then and only then will I let them tell me what I can and can't do to or with it. Until that day. . :p :p :p :p

I guess up north the Government thinks we need to be protected from ourselves! :D Some of the stuff you find out is crazy. Waste of tax dollars. Mass residents could have decreased taxes in the last election with 2 separate issues. ONLY ONE PASSED!! I don't understand.

I would agree with Riflesmith. Also the exhaust would only be illegal if they have a tool with them that can record decibal levels. They would need a big bookk on all the vehicles on the road , what size, what is the factory decibal level, how much noise deadening does the muffler loose with age. I know they do not have that type of time and resources to waste on checking my exhaust. The ricers would have the bigggest problem with them SS go fast mufflers, not us. Sam

Give me a break guys. It's not some conspiricy(sp?) set in motion by the mindless gov't drones. It's the rest of the tax payers that don't want to hear the crap that have caused the noise limits to be enacted. Too bad they're so darn hard to enforce. I can't tell you how many times I've heard a sportbike/Harley/lowered civic that is so damn obnoxious I wish I could give the driver a fix it ticket. Actually, they don't have to carry a dB meter - a buddy of mine got cited in Thousand Oaks, Ca driving his '70 Challenger. It had an exhaust system - it just sounded like it didn't. Headers, 2 chamber Flowmasters and it dumped ahead of the axle - talk about obnoxious. He ended up installing 3 chamber Flowmasters and running the pipes all the way back because he started getting headaches.

The noise issue is at the forefront of the dirt bike world - and rightfully so. The Mfg's (except KTM) and the aftermarket have let the new 4 strokes get so loud that my club is having to deal with this issue almost weekly.

Show some consideration and keep you vehicles somewhat quiet - for all our sake.

Here in Southern Indiana if you have 11,000lbs tags or it has farm tags on it you a emission exempt. But the county were I live doesn't even have vet testing. The only time I hear any complants about my strait pipe is from the tellers at the bank.

I think I'll stay in Indiana:D

One more reason to stay hear, in my town loud diesels out number coffie can rice burners by a leased 10 to 1. ( Thank God ):p

Sorry about you're guys luck, There's plenty of room left down here if you want to move. ;)

Living in MA has been the low point of my existance. I have never lived in a place that so many people try to tell me waht is good for me. HEY MASS LIBERALS... . I have a brain and know how to use it. Yet these idiots are the same ones who keep re-electing Kennedy. MADD supports Teddy... HMM didn't he kill someone with his car while drunk???

Oh yeah, an exhaust will get you pulled over. The police use it as an excuse to look for other violations. In the city of Lynn, everyone who is pulled over is treated as if they are a felon. This comes directly from the mouth of the chief. Discretioin has no place there.

Just a warning. If anyone from out of state is traveling to or through MA, and you participate in the shooting sports, make sure you do not have any loose ammo in your vehicle. A guy was arrested for having ONE 44mag round in his trunk (didn't even have the pistol, just the round). In MA, it is a felony to carry ammo is you do not have a MA permit, or if you are not on your way to a sanctioned shoot.
