2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission No back-up lights?

Tonight I found out for sure that I have no backup lights. Have been suspicous for a while since it is hard to see to backup at night. But with tinted windows it is hard anyway, checked the fuse in the panel by drivers door #7 it was fine, I have never tampered with the wiring in the rear of the truck so I can't see where I might have created a bad connection, whats chances that both lights went out at same time. Where to check next?

Are the wires/wiring connectors still snapped onto the transmission?



Maybe a bad ground in your trailer plug? bad ground in general?



Maybe the b-up lamp switch on the transmission is defunct, this is reasonably rare so I'd test it first. If memory serves it is difficult to get too, maybe remove the floor console for better access with the DV meter etc. ?

My back up lights keep blowing fuses. I will replace the fuse and it will be ok for a day or so then it will blow. I am still looking for the problem.

My backup lights are so bad it is hard to tell if they work or not.

I am going to change that soon.

Are your daytime running lights working too? If not, then its the fuse. If yes, then its a trouble shooting you will have to go.

The best thing to do, is just say to hell with it, and get some 100 watters, put in a toggle switch on the dash, and call it solved!! Hey, they even work when you aren't in reverse!! great for when you dont want to contribute to my Smoke Stories Thread! Oh well, check the switch and plug on the transmission. . I have had mine pop off, and it was a booger to get under there, but thats what it was! Best of luck to ya!

I paid $135(with shipping) for a factory service manual and the reverse lights are the only thing on that circuit on my 2002 6 speed. I just have not found whre it is going to ground yet.

The easy test for the switch is to remove the harness from the switch and jump the two wires in the connector.

I think I will try the plug on the transmission, and try to solve the problem THEN..... the 100 watters are going in I bet they will push me down the road faster!!! and the fuz cant read my plates, but they can see all that smoke at night then

On your NV5600, look at the top of the extension at the rear of the transmission. It's the only thing with wires going to it.



A pair of Hella 90601 halogen work lamps (2 X 55 watt bulbs per lamp) will provide plenty of light to the rear.

I am thinking it is time for the extra backup lights idea but will still try to find the problem.

Jaman - The switch went out on my trans. about a month ago, with only 24,000miles. I done like Thomas said about testing the switch. Took it to the dealer and they swapped it out under warranty. I did ask how much the switch was and they quoted me something like $54. 00. Good luck!

Fine job Andy, Thomas, Eric, and even you Chris!!! Just jumpered out the wiring harness on the transmission and the switch in the transmission must be bad. Just hope it isn't $50+ like Eric thinks it might be, cause I'm at 42,000 miles and counting with no warrenty, Oh well this way I don't have some tech telling me my muffler berring made it go out!
