Hi all,

I've got a new problem... now the truck has no boost. I was driving unloaded up a hill and all of a sudden lost power and started smoking like a freight train. When I checked my gauges, the boost gauge read 0... any ideas where I could start looking for the problem?

intercooler

Mabey check the connections to the intercooler, going to the turbo or leaving. At work wonce they had a jokestroke and it had no power and would smoke bad and the intercooler hose came off mabey this will help. *****Justin:cool:

There's only a few options. Turbo seized, hose blew apart, or something suddenly obstructed it.

I'm for the most likely... gotta hose come loose.

Perhaps a problem with the fuel injection pump. My pump would operate fine around town, but when I put my foot into it, it never produced any real boost. Replaced the pump and all was well.

Just a thought...

I hope it's not the pump

Still haven't found a loose connection on the intake side of things.

I sincerely hope it's not the pump because I've already had it replaced twice. They just put the new one on about three months ago and if it's dead, I'm going to be pi$sed...

Crash,

I'm no expert, but if you have smoke like a freight train and no boost, It sounds to me like you have fuel and no boost.

Does the turbo spool up? Check your fresh-air intake passage also. Something may be suffocating the fresh air intake around the filter and not allowing the turbo to draw like some trash or plastic sucked in from the road. Can't tell from your signature if you're using the Scott or BHAF.

Hope this helps, Bud

Pull the intake hose to the turbo and see if you can spin the compressor wheel with your fingers. It should spin pretty freely. Sounds like a siezed turbo to me... . Sorry. :(

J-eh

BTW BHAF and Psychotty don't have models for the Pre-94's. Scotty and I are working on a system for the 93's.

Lil Dog could be right. It either has to be a seized turbo, a blown off boost hose or a totally plugged air filter, my guess would be a blown off hose, you would have probably heard some screaching if the turbo locked up. Check all of the connections from the turbo to intercooler and then from the intercooler to the motor. I'm not sure how the intercooler is on the 1st gen, but on the 2nd gen, even it it has a leak it isn't going to be too bad because it can only be a small leak because it has a whole bunch of samller lines that run from one side to the other. You'd hear that leak... . I know, dad shoved a stick thru his... ya could hear it blow air everywhere. My money is on a blown off or ripped hose/coupler. Good luck.
