I have looked around alot to try not to bog TDR down with this one but... .

04. 5 without towing package:

The factory 4 conductor blue brake controller harness has the 12v DC constant power but no brake feed power when the brake is depressed with the key on (or off). I have also checked with test light at the brake light switch on the peddle arm and there is no 12v DC of the 4 or 5 wires at the switch.

There is no 12v DC at the switch on the brake peddle but the brake lights are working???

There was another post with reference to what sounded like the same issue with a fuse fix at #28 or #29 under the hood. I have checked and all fuses look good.

I have successfully installed many of these boxes, this one stumped me. Don't know if it might be a no towing package thing...

Any help would be appreciated.

If yours is like my 04, the wire does not have voltage without the tow package. My truck was used (4000 miles) and first owner made dealer install complete front to rear harness for the controller. I found this out after hooking up my box and finding the controller kept telling me no connection. I looked under there and saw the blue wire rolled up and zip tied. I then called the dealer and asked them. They pulled up the history and said the truck had a dealer installed tow package and the installed the harness.

hope that made sense.

Has anyone plugged a electric brake control box straight up to a 04. 5 without the trailer/tow package and had the controller work?

OK This might be usefull for others...

My problem was a blown 15 Amp fuse on #24. Symptoms were:

1. No brake controller harness feed juice when the brake was activated.

2. Also no juice on the actual brake light switch mounted on the brake control lever under the dash.

3. Brake lights only worked with the key in the on position???

I have no idea where the brake lights were being switched on and off when the switch by the peddle had no juice with the blown fuse...

Stumper but got it... It turned out not to be an issue with the Non-Tow Pack truck differences at all. Thanks for the help

Don't know if this helps; if no; file it under additional info to know:

If the brakelights only came on with the key in 'on' position is -strongly- suggests the CHMSL wasn't working... in my case; the dealer had removed the fuse and I'd driven around with several second delay brakelights for several months.

Summation:

Trailer brakes won't work w/o the overhead brake light working. Apparently the trailer brake wire is triggered by the third brake light feed. It has a really weird acronym in the fuse panel; "CHMSL".

This also affects regular (fender) brakelights; more info in the link.

Thanks Big Mak

I could have used you a couple weeks back. Never knew I had a CHMSL until now...

Make sure you #24 fuse is good...

CHMSL = Center High Mounted Stop Light. A common problem when first installing electric brake controllers. For some reason this fuse seems to blow the first time you install a new brake controller. I have had it happen on two different trucks & have heard numerous other instances from others in which the same thing happened.
