I have a 96 2500 4x4 w/198,000miles. The last few times I have driven it,I noticed that the pedal felt a little spongy but still stopped fine. This morning I started it up and when I went to put it drive the pedal went to the floor. If I pump the pedal it will come up but under constant pressure will go back to the floor in about 2 seconds. With the truck turned off, the pedal feels firm. I am not seeing any leaks or fluid loss in the reservoir. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I'm thinking master cylinder as I replaced it at 110,000 with a reman,but the symptoms were a little different.

brake pedal

Dream Chaser;

I've not had any trouble with my dodge master cylinders, but I've had that problem exactly with a ford and a Chevy and it turned out to be the master cylinder both times. I think it is leaking past the cup internally.

Good luck

When you do swap out the master cylinder, do yourself a BIGGGG favor and buy a brand spankin NEW one. Rebuilt ones are an accident waiting to happen. Who rebuilt it? What specs did they use? 'Serviceable' specs are usually much wider than new specs. How skilled were they? Good materials or CHEAP? And a 'lifetime' warranty for brake parts does a body no good if you're lookin' up at daisies.
