Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) No buzz on lift pump.....

Just before I changed the fuel filter in my 2001 1 ton, I started the engine and listened for the buzzz on the lift pump and heard it just fine. Changed the fuel filter, turned on the key and no buzzzz. So either my hearing is going (which my wife tells me that it is!) or something happened in the process of changing the fuel filter. The only thing that is different between this change and all the others is that I have had a bale bed installed and they ran the hydraulic hoses just over the filter housing which makes getting the filter out a problem and putting it back a problem. I can't clip the filter into the cap and then put it down in, I have to put the filter in and push the cap down on it. This is the second lift pump on the truck, first one replaced under warranty at about 40,000 now up to 75,000 on the truck. I can't see any connections loose. Any ideas?

Well, you really didnt mention that you actually "bumped" the starter, you just indicated that you turned the key "on". I guess you still should hear the pump run for a second but it will stop until you actually bump the starter. . Just going for the "maybe theres no problem" solution first. . (long shot)

Or maybe they disturbed the connector at the lift pump when they ran the lines? But it ran before you changed the filter. .

I use my OEM lift pump as a transfer pump from the aux tank to the main and when the aux tank goes empty, sometimes I cannot hear the pump run either. It can be almost silent when it is full of air.

So, I would definitely bump the starter a few times. . That may do the trick... Good luck.
