Well here's what happened. On the 99, i just going down the road it just died, no warnings. Coasted over and popped the hood. I drained the water , if any, from the filter canister. I also unplugged and looked at the injection pump harness. Looked fine. Got back in and she fired right up. Drove about 1000 feet and she started to run on about 4 cycl and then died, never to start again. I pulled her home and now i have been researching the archives for the answer.

The lift pump is cycling on and off and filling the filter canister. I tried resetting the TPS/APPS too. but nothing. That's all i have done. Thanks in advance

What about cracking the fuel lines lose at injectors to see that you have pressure ? if not, I'm not sure on your truck but if you do , make sure that the linkage on the fuel solinoid is opperating.

unfortunately you probably just lost your VP44. some of the early trucks failed that way. after a hard pull or at highway speeds the guys let off and the truck never runs again. It may have been so sudden that you wont see any codes for it either. you can start with the cheaper items like the CPS, and Map sensor but i'd venture to bet you lost the VP.

Cracked the line on top of filter canister, that has plenty of fuel. Cracked the line at first injector, turned her over. NOTHING not even a dribble. So well fellas, what's next ?

Same thing happened to me... VP44 failed at 160k. fuel pressure good and all.

Also just because the li8ft pump turns on and pumps means nothing. you need the pressure.

Good luck

when i cracked the line and cycled the lift pump, it squeeted the diesel juice out with somewhat of pressure, prolly enuff for the IP to pick up and run. i think at least.

I am going to AutoZone and get a scanner first. I just don't think its the IP for some reason. I think its something else, just my penny pinching thinking.

Sorry, sounds as if the VP died, been in a truck that did the same thing, and how ironic it was a '99. I hate seeing these go out all the time... ... ..... grrrrr!
