the other night i was working on my truck putting the light on the inside of the hood (the one that comes on when you open the hood) and when i was putting the screws in i forgot to unplug it and touched the hot side of the bulb clip with the screwdriver, then i had no dome lights, radio, and my little click lights by my compas wont even work. i checked for blown bulbs and none are, i also checked every single fuse in the dash and under the hood and not one is blown. if i take the radio fuse out and put it back in the equalizer lights blip on for a sec and go right back off and that is it. i have looked at this for 4 days and cant figure it out. any ideas????

There is a funny looking fuse, with a black clip over top it-it almost looks like a dead slot, but there is a fuse in there. Thats the one. has 3 letters on it, can't rememeber what they were.

is that under the hood or by the dash? i thought i have checked every fuse in the truck but i might have missed one. i would assume its in the dash but no such luck finding it. also i left my truck idleing for about an hour and when i got back a friends dad said my truck just died out of the blue. after about an hour on the battery charger it started but the headlights were dead dim. any connections? i talked to a few people and they thought it was the altenator. i am no electric guru so any help would be great.

yeah, i know it is bad to let idle for that long, but the heaters are broke and i put a piece of tube between the seat to run it up to about 1200 rpms when it sits. i do road construction so its seen idle times of up to 14 hrs before, and its **** cold rightr now and my truck has a hard enough time starting plugged in, also there is two big wires going to the back of the altenator and looks like a relay of some sort, it was on a loose bolt so i tightened it and it didnt seem to help. that leads me to think that the altenator is bad, will check that tomarrow, but what do i do about the dome lights? right now all i have is my 10,000,000 candlepower spotlight, the baby and drivethru dont like it very much.

LOL 1200 better than nothing!!

If wires on the alt were loose, could have shorted out???

Also, if your heater grid is broken, maybe its drawing a load, is it disconnected?

i i never disconected it, just stopped working. to tell you the truth i dont know if it ever worked since ive had the truck. im going to check the alt. today, i guess 250,000 miles on a stock one isnt bad. i have never had to put anything on it and am just starting to, heck its still got 3 of the 4 stock ball joints

And from Charlan- I. O. D, Ignition Off Draw

nope, still without it all. i cant find a iod in my truck, i have pulled out every fuse in the entire truck and not one is bad, when i pull the radio fuse out and put it back in the equalizer lights (the 3 little oarnge ones) blip on for a briefe sec and die. i just live with it now, i gave up :-{} it won. i use my 10,000,000 spotlight now, a lot of people dont like that!!

heres the wierd part, i have the compas display in mine and it works but the lights by it dont?????? all the dash lights work but no dome lights, radio, hood light, cargo light, cigartte lighter. i cant figure it out. i would send someone to a steakhouse on me for the night if they could figure it out!!!

i'LL CHECK THAT OUT WHEN i GET HOME. Better do it quick, supposed to be raining and start snowing in the morning, and the truck don't fit in the garage. Matt I'll let you know if I have any luck.

Offer of assistance!!

Matt if you can come by my house after work some night, i'll look at it the best i can. The I. O. D is more than likely the culprit. I had 1 do that same damn thing to me, the I. O. D fixed it.

Pm me if you want my # to call me.

The IOD is on the bottom left hand (front of truck) corner on mine.

With the way the EQ does it sounds to me like you have a short.

Get a test light/probe and figure out which banks of fuses in the dash have power at all times. When you test the high side of the fuses they should all light the tester. Test the low side and they should light if the fuse is good.

Turn the key on to check all of those Fuses that are switched by the key (all accessoories will need to be off though)

If you test a row and neither side will light, that is a fuse that has a current draw (potentially a short) The door being open will cause this symptom too because it will be trying to light the dome light. Push the button on the door jamb to break the dome light circuit(turning them off)

The idea is that if the accessoriess are off, the tester provides the best ground and the test light will burn. If a better circuit is already in place (something is on or shorted) the the test light will not burn when it should.

My best guess is a screw is in the hood light the wrong way. Who knows though, I hate wiring.

Good luck.

Any time Matt. Just let me know what's goin on. The Iod Fuse is in the dash fuse panel. It is a black covering that fits over the fuse and holds it during "new truck shipping". When the new truck comes to the dealer ship and they prep them, they have to push that fuse in and make sure everything works. It's just a little holder on the outside of the fuse.

Got mine fixed

I finally got mine fixed, It was the IOD, which on my 01, is fuse # 11. far left second row with the black cover on it, fixed just in time. I got stuck driving to my other halves family stuff all weekend, which gets to be an hour each way. Matt good luck with it.
