On the list for today, find out why dome light does not come on when the left rear door is opened. Either a broken wire or bad door latch.

Will post results later.

Door does not get used all that much and all other electrical items work fine so I’m leaning towards the latch...we shall see!!

Most likely a broken wire. I replaced both rear door harnesses on my 03. Found new ones on eBay and saved the old ones. Someday I'll look at them and fix the broken wires so I have spares.

I will give the 3rd gen engineers credit for designing one of the most easily removed door panels ever!!

Welcome to my world of 3rd gen electrical gremlins.

Definitely in that bundle between the rear door and the B pillar. Both of mine were not broken on the door side, but rater just inside the B post beyond where the connector is. Pull that rubber grommet out and pull as much of the wire out of the B post as you can. Your trouble spot will probably be approximately 1-2" above the connector.

I'll go try that right now, just got the door panel off and was poking around in there.

Did just look up the door harness price, this MegaCab does not have the cheaper harness. It's like 150.00 bucks....guess I'll fix it when I find the broken spot.

I added a couple of inches of wire on mine and tied it back to keep some of the tension off that spot. I'm not sure if your mega will be the same as the quad, but I'll bet they have that harness pulled very tight in that spot.

Found it!!!!

Terminal kit no longer available...Come on..:mad:

You will find that this is the case on many little things on these 3rd gens anymore. Common little failures and either parts no longer made or on backorder. Just wait until you need a TIPM.

Just a heads up, on my truck all the wires eventually had the insulation crack (like your gray and brown wires) in multiple places. I believe Dorman has replacement door harnesses. If theirs have better wire/insulation than stock then that would probably be the best long term fix. Otherwise you’ll be fixing wires every few years until you’ve replaced them all.

My left rear door does get a workout though, opened and closed at least twice a day, more if I have to grab stuff from the back seat during the day. I assume the wire failure is related to cycles, so if you rarely open the back door you may go a long time between wire failures.

Knew I should have just kept my mouth shut. I went to buy the Dorman harness and came across many complaints that the rubber boot starts cracking within months. So it seems like OEM for around $150 is the only option besides repairing the one you have. Someone posted the terminals are sumitomo 8230-4502, but I have no idea if that is correct or not.

From the description given in the NLA kit above the Sumitomo 8230-4502 sounds correct right down to the 2.3MM description. Thanks for posting that.
