I've posted this on the 12 valve side of the house too so I could get the most exposure to this question.

I'm interested in getting a set of the '01/'02 tow mirrors for my '95. I've heard of some 12 valvers that installed the '01/'02 tow mirrors and had to sacrifice the power option of their mirrors. Can anyone tell me why this is? I can understand not having the heated capabilities because it seems to me I wouldn't have the circuitry. If my stock mirrors are electric, why shouldn't I still be able to have the same with these tow mirrors?

Unless... ..... is it just the '01 tow mirrors that didn't come electric? If this is the case, I guess I'd need to make sure I got a set of '02 tow mirrors?

Thanks

O. K. , O. K. ,

I know this isn't an 24 valve engine/drivetrain topic, but I was hoping to catch more of you '01/'02 drivers out there..... sorry. But any thoughts?

Just because you have the control stick for power mirrors doesn't mean the trailer tow mirrors should suddenly become power mirrors. There is no motor drive in the trailer tow mirrors to adjust them, they are purely manual, you adjust them by pushing directly on the mirror. About the only time you need to adjust them is when changing positions from vertical to horizontal.

I too think it's pretty foolish to NOT provide power adjustment to the '02 style towing mirrors - their adjustment changes radically from the down/up positions, and as expected, requires a number of trips out and around the truck to get the passenger side re-set each time you change positions.

At the very LEAST, seems like the geniuses at DC could have used their high school geometry lessons to design a mirror whose settings remained the SAME. regardless of which position it was in...

I replaced my electric heated mirrors with the 01 factory tow mirrors.

Here's a trick for the manual tow mirrors - when you have them lined up to where you want them, take a scribe and gently (real gently) scribe a line around the mirror in the head on the side nearest the door side of the mirror. This will leave a faint line in the plastic to act as a guide for mirror adjustment.

Next time you switch from tow to regular mode you will be able to home right in on the proper setting for each mirror.

Thanks for all the input. I guess there's no way around it... . I'll have to go with CIPA to get the power.

Rob, I almost took the bait! :D
