Should parents and other interested citizens censor books for children?

In another thread (now closed), Steve M. stated that " it's not freedom if it isn't free".

Freedom has NEVER been "free". It is worth so much precisely because its cost is so high. The following quote says it all-

"In a free society, there must be a group willing to sacrifice their freedom so others can have theirs. Freedom must be purchased. If there is no sacrifice, there is no freedom. Freedom charges rent. To remain free, you must be prepared to pay the price for freedom when it is threatened. "

Let us remember all those who have left home and families to go defend our freedom- especially those who gave all. If we fail to remain vigilant and protect our freedoms from being taken from within, then their sacrifices will have been in vain.

Bill Lins,

You are right on this one! We are currently making payments, with pride and guts, in order that we maintain our freedom. The last administration, IMO, did not have the reality of it down.

Ollie North told the boyz that Bin Laden was going to be trouble many years ago... . they did not heed the warning! Would our current administration pay attention?

We will take care of the "cancerous" growth on earth that has thrived due to a bunch of self serving losers. That fool was more concerned about dipping his wick than doing the job he was hired for.

What I was refering to was the single case of my friend Pam who was murdered by her husband. She was not a freedom fighter. She was a mother of three and a wife trying to seperate from her enraged husband. He applied for a gun purchase and his application was denied. Our current gun laws are sufficient. Inforcement of our current gun laws is flawed. He somehow managed to obtain a gun illegally and shot her in the head as she arrived for work. He is charged with 1st degree murder but it is too late for her. She lived in a free society. She was not free to pursue happiness. She was under the control of a mad man who was free to murder her. Only then action was taken. This is not freedom.

We are free from a tyranical government but we are all oppressed by the criminal element of our free society. We are not free from the likes of Osama bin Laden. We are in a constant pursuit of freedom and closer than any country on the planet to freedom but, we are not totally free.

No our military personel who have died in the pursuit of freedom did not die in vane. Every one of them is a hero. Without them we would be a total loss. My friend Pam, who I love dearly, died in vane. She was the price to pay for her A/H husband's freedom to aquire a handgun illegally and use it to kill her.

I don't know what the answer is. I just wish there was an answer.

Steve, On reading and re-reading your post it seems to me that this was a case of one mans, A/H, freedom taking away another persons freedom. While the killer did obtain the gun illegally, he would not have been able to do so in a "non-free" society. Sad part is groups like the ACLU will assure he is dealt with in a humane manner.

The laws, as you say, are in place and they are suffecient to assure that gun ownership is a practice that can be left safely intact. The failure is on the enforcement end.

If you think about it the ACLU is DIRECTLY responsible for the deaths of many. I will throw a curve here..... should the "system" be held liable for murders and such due to their failure? The Samantha Runnion case comes to mind, the killer was charged in the past with molestation and got off the hook due to a jury not seeming to believe the young witnesses. The "geniuses" say that a molester if caught and let off will be a killer the next time so as to not leave a witness.

I own and will continue to own firearms cause target shooting is a sport I enjoy, so you Texans save your breath as I am NOT in favor of what they call "gun control". No offense intended. Just a timesaver.

Mike

Remember the good times with you lady friend. . it will get you by, God Bless

To start off I'm am a gun owner and probably shoot more than most of those on here combined.

To blame a tool(gun) instead the person that uses it is just plain silly. I just lost a great friend to a dunk driver. What was at fault the car or the liquor or maybe the bar that the guy got drunk at?

Freedom is an eternal truth but what we have lost track of here is that for every act there is a consequence. Freedom cost lives. And has been paid for by our ancestors. If one breaks a law he should loose his freedom. The big problem is our law system just slaps there hands and gives them back there freedom or they get off on some kind of BS.

The guy that killed my good friend had 3 DUIs in this state in the last two years and 6 more total in two other states.

Steve, I do feel your lose but taking away our freedom won't bring our friends back. We need no new laws we need to ones we have in place held fast to!!!!!

Thanks but I think my post was taken out of context. I agree with you 100% as my post suggests.

I don't have alot of respect for the ACLU either. Criminals are not victims. They are predators. You cannot make a puppy out of a rattlesnake by giving it a hug and some therapy.
