After i blew out the side cover for the tappets i had to take the P7100 off to get at the cover. everything went well except now that its back together when i put it to the floor there is very little fuel, VERY LITTLE. it still accelerates but now very much.

if i lift up on the pedel just a bit, BOOM its like a freight train.

What gives????

Michael. .

It sounds like either its sucking air in the system or the timing retarded on you. Check them both first since you have had the pump off... ..... Andy

Mike when you re-installed the pump, did the gear go back to its origional location before removal?

This might not have any thing to do with your problem, but then again, do you have a fuel plate in it? Sounds like the lever is going under the toe of the plate. Mine did exacltly as your describing with a number 5 plate. And I have used this plate for a long time with on problem till now. 1/2 throttle ok 3/4 flat, full --go.

id check to see wheere the lever is contacting the plate at. although i dont know how that would have changed by taking the pump off???

i never touched the AFC cover so why would it change??

Michael

It won't! If the timing is right then I'd say it either sucking air or there is a fuel restriction some were. I ran into this issue a little while back and could not figure it out. Turns out that when I tore everything out I took the fuel heater off and changed the filter, cleaned the pre-screen ect and it ran like an ape after that. I still really don't know what I did but it went from holding ZERO fuel pressure to holding 15 psi. Mine was so bad it was lean banging on the topend.

mike , just burn that truck already. lol at least mine just runs oil through the radiator. lol. good luck buddy

Maybe you should give up on yours and sell it to me before Wendy sells it for you LOL

They sound like fighting words.

Maybe he should use the p-pump on your Dakota instead as it performed flawlessly while I was attempting to keep up in my very underpowered 12v that day going to CT... ... ... ... Andy

The other day I smelled raw fuel so I looked under the truck and sure enough fuel leak,

its dripping from the pumpkin on the rear so I looked around the fuel pump but didn't see anything obvious.

What I did notice that on the side of the block behind the injection pump was fuel so its obviously coming from back there(but where??)

its not the fuel filter housing or mechanical lift pump because they were thrown out years ago LOL

Michael

The steel fuel return line from the fuel injection pump is between the pump and block. Could be cracked. Or, one of the washers from the OF valve banjo could be bad.

def not the Overflow valve but ill have to look at the return line.

isnt there a rubber hose that goes to the end of the steel returnline????

Follow the return line back from the overflow valve along under the intake. Near the rear of the P-Pump you will find the transition to a rubber fuel line with 2 small clamps holding it. One will be about the end of the P-Pump and the other will be near the bell housing. When the fuel filter cannister is in place you need to be Gumby to change this line as its a real PIA due to the awkward place its in. I just did mine on my truck about a month ago when it split for some reason and washed down the underside of my truck.

Now knowing you have switched from the factory setup and removed the filter cannister did you relocate the injector return line?It mounts and return the uneeded fuel to the filter assembly and if its not rerouted when you went to the electric pump then it also could be your leak. It would run down over the starter assembly and down onto the front rear center section... . Andy
