Which warranty is the turbo covered under?

Monday, I had to have my 03 towed to the dealership due to fuel pump failure. The pump would be covered under warranty, but the in tank pumps are on national back order. I think this is just the beginning of our troubles with the availablity of parts for the dodges.

Depending on how long they are suspected to be on back order, see if the dealer would install the original replacement from Geno's... might keep from having the truck sitting around for an extended period of time.

Parts guy says that there are 260 on national backorder. Right now, they are trying to find a dealer that has one (in tank conversion) and overnight it from him. Tried to talk to them about the original replacement but they weren't too interested in listening until they found out about getting one from another dealer.

How many miles on your rig ?? I would sure like to know just how many failures there have been on the fuel pumps in the 98. 5 through 2003's.

I'm sure I'm going to install the FASS 95 from Geno's as I sure do not want to get stuck out in the high desert or in mountain camp ground with no cell phone service and then a with a pump failure.

Get the stock pump from Genos, it is the very same one, just have them over night it to you and if they will not install it ,, find someone that will

A little over 50,000 miles on the clock. I have asked them to do just that but if they do it, I have to stand the tow and the cost of the repair. The dealer I bought from tells me that they received a memo from Chrysler telling them to use genuine Chrysler parts but if on back order use value line parts, then reman parts and finally aftermarket parts but that they would be covered under warranty. Right now I feel like my truck is being held hostage! This is a business truck and I am having to use an 94 Ford with no a/c! This whole deal leaves a very bad taste in my mouth about Dodge. It would be different if it were not for the fact that Dodge have terrible track record with the fuel pumps and knows that they have a problem.

Mine (the second one) failed yesterday on I-10 pulling our fiver through TX. We had to get towed 75 miles to Monahans, TX. They actually had one in stock (the in-tank retrofit kit) but the dealer is pulling the pump to put in my truck.

The original engine mounted pump made it to 80,000 miles. The retro in-tank pump failed at 108,000 miles (28,000 miles).

Glad I was able to get one.

Juan

BTW, the tow was $774 but covered by Good Sam roadside service.

Fuel Pumps

After reading all the info on these pumps I stopped at our local dealer yesterday and asked them how many they have changed.

There answer was lots, in fact there was truck pulling out of the service bay that just had one changed and one was parking next to mine outside that was in for the new pump.

When I got home I called the local < 100 miles away > diesel shop and my FASS 95 will be installed next Wednesday. :)

There now will be piece of mind when we are trucking around this summer with the 5th wheel.

When I read threads like this it takes me back to the beginning of the 3rd gen trucks. Everyone thought "finally, this is the solution to the LP fuel pump problems". Nope.

What a shame they screwed it up again. That little pump that fits on the back of the filter canister is actually a nice little design. Quiet and easy to replace.

They should've specified a 50k mile replacement as "normal service". That way they make a tidy little profit, and no one complains if their pump "only lasts 80k".

X2, that Pump get's a bad rap, Why would you install the in tank pump when the fail rate maybe ---- but you can replace that pump (side Mounted) on the side of the road in 30 minutes or less, the in tank pumps fail also and try and replace that on the road side? replace it with the dual factory lift system and you will never have to be worry of be stranded again, its flow rate will compete with the best systems out there. Not to mention the option of the on/off features.

After one full week they decide that they can put the old style pump in after all! I just don't get it, it should have been fixed in 2 days tops! I shouldn't have had to be without that truck and driving one without a/c for all this time. Once again Dodge drops the ball!

Tell me about the dual factory lift system please?

I've got photos from my install of the dual lift pump setup. PM me your email and I'll send you some pics.

I installed it prior to a round trip to Billings MT because my original was getting a little bit weak and I didn't want to end up changing one on the side of the road. This way if the one dies, I keep going until I get back home and I am in the comfort of my garage to change the bad pump out. The only problem I'm having is finding a switch to control them with. Right now I'm running both simultaneously until I find a switch.

I think that we all now HAVE valid concerns when it comes to OEM parts for our trucks. Many of the mfr suppliers are taking hard hits to their manufacturing, some are laying off their people due to the economics at hand.

It would be in OUR best interest if we all consider going ahead with having a 'stock' of our own on those 'wear' parts that could become all but extinct in the months ahead due to the current economics.

While it is nice to 'think' we have a warranty, parts shortages to fulfill that warranty might make it rather cumbersome with regards to having your truck going down the road or sitting for an extended period of time at a dealership, possibly never getting from them what is needed because a manufacturer of something has gone TU and no one else made that part.

I used to be that WE became our own warranty providers when we did any kind of mods or used an aftermarket part, now we will become our own warranty station because stock parts availability are becoming an issue that leaves us with no choice other than to use aftermarket parts.

It is becoming a loose/loose situation if/when you are trying to stay with the dealer/manufacturer regarding warranty replacements and keeping your truck on the road. It is also only going to get worse as time passes if the current manufacturing trends continue.

Time to get what you think you will need down line in wear parts, get your garage in order with the tools you will need to do the basics, buy the repair manual/disc and read up.

FASS 95 Pump

Had my FASS 95 installed today and so far so good. Had it done at

the closet Diesel specialty shop. < 100 mile away>> No more sweating the factory pump going out when we are out with the 5er. Oo.

It does seem a little noisy though when it is running. Intend to call tomorrow and ask about that.

I am not the original owner but the first fuel pump I lost went at 80,000 last memorial day. The second one went today at 92k. No one in my area stock a replacement so like before I will have to order a new one. After two I am ready to upgrade. What do you know about Fass or airdog. Any prefrences or things to watch for. I need dependability not speed hot rodding. I am losing my confidence in my dream truck. thanks for the help. I am also running with out A/C on the passenger side. thanks dodge.

Mort,,

I had the FASS installed at the closest diesel shop and you can hear it running when you are standing outside or before you start the engine but it is not what I would consider to be loud,

At least I do not worry about it going out when we are out in the boondocks camping. :D
