No Fuel Tank Vent Mod Yet? Try This:

Before I installed Spooledup's tank vent, I was able to trickle fuel into the tank using a wine cork under the handle of the pump nozzle, after the first one or two automatic shutoffs by the pump. This allowed me to deliver fuel at a much lower rate than the minimum allowed by simply operating the nozzle lever by hand. Using a cork, delivery can be so slow that the fuel does not foam, the nozzle automatic shutoff doesn't work, and the tank will overflow unless you watch closely as it approaches full capacity. Last week I timed a pump, and was able to get the delivery rate as low as 1/1000th of a gallon (. 001 on the pump's meter) per half-second. Of course, this won't speed up getting the last five or six gallons in the tank, but you can keep your hands out of the cold, and do something else for a few mintues, like fill out a fuel and mileage log. I put three different diameter corks on a cord fastened to my fuel cap key -- it keeps them handy and the key is harder to lose, as well. See the two photos.

I use a piece of resin plastic I have had about 40 years. It basically has 3 steps on it starting at 1", 1 1/2", 2".



You could make one out of 3" of 1x2 furring strip. 1x2 I think is really 3/4" x 1 3/4" that would give you 3/4" layed flat, 1 3/4" standing up, and a notch would give 1 1/2" or however much you notched it.



Pill bottles also come to mind, a golf ball?.

If you start the flow of fuel out of the nozzle and slowly turn the nozzle upside down you notice that all of the air bubbles are out of the stream of fuel. then you can increase the volumn to your liking, and just watch the tank fill tube so you don't over fill it.

Just get spooledup's mod and enjoy the speedy fill up. After 13 years of slow fill ups of 2 tanks on my F250, I couldn't be happier with my vent mod.

i still have no vent, but the pumps around here stop at $100 now, and i can't be bothered to not pay at pump [paying inside would give me a $250 limit] and $100 cdn only buys about 115 liters or so. the big nozzle fills that $100 up very quickly

I usually just take one of the empty beer cans out of the backseat and crush it to whatever thichness I feel like pumping at that day. If I don't have any empties, I make one. :-laf :-laf

A pliers/leatherman head is what I use on the gas barrel on the farm. Never thought about it for my p/u. A 6" block under the front left wheel works as good or better than any mod, sorry Spooled-up. Between the new lift pump sucking lower than original pickup and filling up half-cocked I can get 42-3 gals easy.
