I have an '03 h. o. with the FASS fuel system installed on it, been this way for about 6 months now,I put an electric fuel pressure gauge on it about 3-4 months back, the needle has always had a slight movement in it form time to time but not always, recently about 2 1/2 months ago I put a PMCR on the truck after a few weeks I started getting a small stumble, only under very light acceleration and not always there kinda like a miss, here lately it has gotten more evident. I thought it might be due to the PMCR, but Mark at TST said they have only seen one at speeds down the interstate not down low like mine. My gauge quit the other day and then started working again now it has quit altogether, so Iinvestigated it, checked all the circuits ground, switched 12+, everything checked ok, so I listened for the fuel pump to come on and run it didnt, no 12v hot---dead, also have a code set p0628 fuel pump relay circuit low, or fuel lift pump control circuit low, What do you check for this code?? Brad at FASS fuel systems said ground his pump to - bat and run switched 12v+ to the fuse box with a 15 amp fuse inline anyone tried this with a FASS fuel system?? Doesn't the computer till it when to start and stop pumping? Where is the old fuel pump relay, is it the one on the back of the cp-3? should I replace this relay? I think maybe now my stumble was this fuel pump not working and the injector pump working on the suction method which the FASS system is designed to do in case of lift pump failure. :confused: Help anyone with ideas????????

FASS fuel pump would not run.



I had one of the brushes stick and the spring could not keep it against the armature. It was jammed so bad would it not come out either. Broke off the copper lead trying. Ended up very gently drilling the center out with a small bit and useing only finger power on bit. Then slowly broke up old brush. Cleaned it up with air. New brushes and runs good.

One year of use and the brush that was working showed very little wear, the other side just decided to stick.

Pull the brushes to make sure they slid in and out easy. And check the ends for breakage.

As far as I know ECM controls fuel pump no external relay.

You've got a bit of a complex setup there with the FASS and a PMCR, but maybe I can help with the info for code P0628 from the powertrain diagnostics manual.



This code is set when: the voltage detected on the fuel lift pump is above a calibrated value for a calibrated amount of time.



Possible Causes:

-Loose connection

-Lift pump shorted to voltage

-Return circuit open

-Lift pump bad



Now, the first step in the diagnostic procedure is to turn on the lift pump using the DRBIII. If the pump doesn't come on, it's bad and must be replaced.



I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance here, because I'm not familiar with the installation of the FASS...

According to the wiring diagrams (2003) there is no relay for the pump, it is powered by the ECM.



The title of the P0628 code (low voltage at lift pump) and the condition that sets it (voltage at pump is too high for too long) don't jive. My assumption is that this code really means that the driving circuit voltage at the ECM hasn't dropped like it should have if the pump was running.
 
FASS pump and brushes

ok I talked to Ted Jannetty and Brad Eckstram, first of all both were a great help, my brushes are sticking in the fuel pump motor, Brad is sending me some new ones to test for him. I have had a crankshaft position sensor code #p0336, I figure it was due to the PMCR, most guys with that box have that code, however I have a later version box and Mark said I shouldn't have it, got to checking the original fuel pump circuit and it is dead as well, Ted Jannetty said if the code is thrown then my crank sensor is bad as it will kill voltage to the fuel pump circuit via the cummins engine controller, my local dodge dealer got me a crank sensor under warranty coming in I will post as to if this fixes this problem. thanks for the help guys, and thanks Andyman, sometimes I think stock was nice, real nice,lol. :)
