I'm helping a friend diagnose a transmission issue. He has a 2004 with a 48RE. After the truck sits for a couple of days and he start it, puts it in gear and nothing happens. After after :30 seconds or so the trucks moves and is fine.

Any ideas on what is going on? Other than being irritating does it hurt anything. Should we put off doing any thing about it or should we get on it and fix it. Truck has only 11000 miles on it. Thanks. Jeff

This gets covered a lot!

It is the torque converter draining into the pan.

It usually is the converter bushing, but can be other things.

It really doesn't hurt much, but the best advice is to put it in neutral right after starting it, leave it there for 30-45 seconds.

The pump doesn't fill the converter in park.

A good aftermarket converter will be modified to fill in park.

The cooler line has a check ball that is supose to prevent/reduce this problem. It may be stuck or not seating. If it sticks it can prevent flow to the cooler, which will destoy the trans quickly. Most of us remove the check ball and get a built VB. The Dodge rearwheel drive trans have done this since about 1962!!!

I have seen old tired fluid agrivate it too.

These are some of the best trans people! DTT and they are close to you. Diesel Transmission Technology - DTT Performance Diesel Transmission and Power Accessories

good luck.

Thanks Fox.

I new this was nothing new, I just couldn't remember what caused it. I did a search, I guess I didn't use the right words because nothing came up.

Thanks again. Jeff
