tonight after I got out of the tractor I got into my truck and went to turn on the headlights and the fog parkand instrument lights came on I did a search on here but I am still confused I do not have the drl's and I can pull my turn single and I get brights but I have to hold it back is this the dash switch or is it the one in the stearing column

This sounds like your multifunction switch on the steering collum is the problem. If you use your tilt wheel very much, I think this loosens the connections, and wears the wires. Especially in the colder weather, stiff wires. Mine started to do this, I checked the wires, they were good, disasembeled the switch cover, made sure all was good inside. Seemed to fix the problem so far. One thing you will need is tamper proof torq bits to take it apart. They have a hole in the center of the bit.

Lots of guys have had this problem. There's as many fixes as there is guys. What I did to correct it in my rig was to replace the switch and throw out that plastic block that is used as a quick connector at the factory. Anyway, I made a diagram of the wire colors and cut them all at the block. I crimped on new soldierless connectors and it worked for three or four years. Last year, while doing something else with the dash bezel off, I check the switch. I saw that the main 10 gauge feed wire had been hot (yellow connector turned dark). I removed that connector and soldiered on a new one. I hacksawed the plastic cover off before soldiering. Now after hours of driving I can touch the front of switch cover and it's completely cool.

So, I'd say crimp on new connectors on all but the main feed wire and soldier that one on.

Before you get to far into it, check the lights as you move the tilt steering up and down. My 97's lights (dims) go out if the steering is tilted all the way down. Outherwise, I'd suspect the dash switch we just had this problem on my daughter's 96.

I was wondering how long it would take before it came up on here... . thank God fog lights can get you through a snow storm :-laf
