No heat...cold...very cold...

I thought there was a post a while back on this, but couldn't find it, so here we go again. Occasionally, when I turn the heater on, I get no heat. The fan does not blow, regardless of the position (defroster, floor... ). I know there is supposed to be a vacuum operated door somewhere that is supposed to re-direct air to different locations. Is it possible that it isn't moving?

Why woulnd't the fan work, regardless of the position of this door?



Anyone have something similar happen? I notice it happens more frequently when the heater functions are not used for a few days. Last week here in Michigan it was close to 65 deg. This morn it was 12.

Same in Colorado. 65 degrees saturday, -3 monday morning. Shock.



Fan should work as soon as any button besides off is pushed. Either the fan speed switch is bad, or something with a contact point with the buttons is coroded. I'm guessing you checked fuses, etc. - maybe reseat the fan fuse in case it has coroded a bit.

Well, had something happen today that is sorta related to this thread. We have several Fo** company trucks(at least they are diesel, guys!) and one of them developed a heater problem about 1 1/2 years ago. The supt. kept complaining, had the truck in 3 times for the problem with no luck. Still didn't work!



Well, today the problem was finally solved by an either very good mechanic or a very lucky one! He tore into the heater and found a writing pen that had slipped down the defroster vent and somehow made it's way all the way to the flapper door inside the heater. Can't quite figure out how it got that far, but now everything is working right. Hard to believe something that simple could cause such a problem.



Just thought this might be of use to someone someday. Don't know if it could happen to a Dodge but you never know!

Even without any vacum, the defogger vents should be blowing air if the blower is working



Is your fan running at all ?

See if you have power to the fan, if you got power there and the motor doesn't run, blower motor is shot



Check fuse in fuse block



check fan switch,



check your fuse link under the hood (same one that controls some accessories like the blower motor and cruise control)



check the resister pack behind the glove box (it is mounted thru the fire wall)

Had similiar problem, blower motor switch in dash was bad, $45. 00 later my blower motor had enough power to clean ten years worth of leaves out of the housing, I did not have to listen to the leaves rustle every time I turned the a/c or heat on, the vacumn problem I did not have any experience with sorry.

Ok,



I've been trying to figure this out. the problem is intermittent. also, when I notice that the fan isn't blowing, the power windows do not work either. This leads me to believe that it is the fusible link, since all of the fuses are ok. took them all out, cleaned the contacts, verified zero resistance. I will be replacing the link shortly.



I'll let you folks know how it goes. This is kinda what I was afraid of. I don't mind taking the entire engine/truck apart. I absolutely hate wiring.
