They called their "STAR" system and ultimately replaced:

Coupling Air C 5019632-AA

Door Defroster 5073964-AA (This is what was actually broken)

Housing Heater 5073956-AA

Paper work shows they had to evacuate the A/C, I think I'll go check it out and make sure it still works!

It looks like they just went into it from under the dash on the passenger side, but I could be wrong. Everything looks normal and heat pours out down there now. :D

On previous year models dash has to be removed or pulled back to get to defroster doors/hinges etc. Thats why ac was discharged. Actually on trucks dash R&R is not bad. Evaporator had to be moved.

I noticed one small problem, after the work was done the right rear door speaker was dead. I pulled out my radio and checked the connection - it looked good. I reseated it's connector and everything works OK now. Strange eh?

I also noticed some black plastic shavings on the fr. passengers floor, like they drilled something. What do you supposed they drilled?

Yep they did. One kinda funny side note about this whole thing. My wife took my truck to the dealer early in the morning to get the heater fixed. She wore open toe'd shoes and a skirt :-laf , Just about froze her hoo ha's off!

Mine just started this last night. It will go to full vent, vent/defrost,

floor/defrost after you switch it about 50 times, but it will not goto all defrost or all floor. How long did it take for the dealer to actually fix this once they got the parts? I wonder if this is covered under the 70K warranty because I have 51K on the truck? If not I wonder how hard this would be to fix yourself?

Thanks

Scott :(

LOL, mine started doing this with 35,000 and change. Reminds me of the injector pump on my '99 that went out at 96,000 or so.

I called last week for an appointment and the dude I was talking to would hear nothing of the TSB and insisted it was the accuator.

These guys are quick to fix anything that needs it under warranty, which is a good thing. (suppose it matters that I've went out with the customer service rep a few times  )

But, I took it in Monday AM and got a call that afternoon and was told that they would have to order the lower part of the box and pivot arm ... ... ... ... ..... if they would have just listened to the TDR wisdom, I wouldn't have to take it back this coming Monday:rolleyes:

Is this an '03 only problem? I live in the Florida Keys, so SELDOM use the heater. But do venture north to Michigan around Christmas to visit the grandkids. Definitely want the heater to work then!!!

I would assume the o4 have not been out long enough to know but its a failrly early 03 bulliten and might assume production changes took place. Let us know next winter!

how much air comes out the vents when on full heat? when i have mine on full power the blower makes alot of rushing air sounds, the air the comes out is ok but not strong. this makes me think i should check this out. any ideas of testing to see if mine is up to specs?

thanks

The problem is the lower air box. The electircal motors that run the mode door is breaking off the stop tab on the air box and jamming the mode door. They have to remove the dash. replaced lower air box and door. And they are on back order. It takes about 4 hours to do the job. I've done quite a few of them.

thanks for the info Jgoodwin. Is this something that can be done by the average mechanic with lots of tools. My bumper to bumper is gone and I really don't want to pay the dealer a ton to fix this.

I bet someone not familier with this repair would be at it a long time. bet your best bet is a dealer tech thats already done a few.

Chances of finding a dealer that has done any is slim where I live. I don't feel like paying them $70+ dollars an hour to work on it. Someone mentioned earlier they thought you had to discharge the ac. That may have been on 2nd gen trucks. If that is the case I will let the dealer do it if not I will probably do it myself. I don't care if it takes 2 days.
