This issue is really stumped me. Low beam and fog lights work but no highs. Changed the light switch on the dash, changed the high beam switch on the steering column, changed the relay in the fuse box under the hood. Pulled the light and it has 12 volts, ran a ground wire to it and it came on. What in the world am I missing?
my headlights are after market but have worked great for last 5 years until now.

1999 ram sport diesel, red of coarse

For future reference to anybody with similar issues. The bulbs have 12 volts going to them and the switch controls the ground. I just had a pickup that the low beams wouldnt shut off. It has aftermarket sport headlights, well the extra wiring was rubbing on the body causing a ground all the time.

Yes, I knew that. Sorry, I should have mentioned that when I attached a ground wire to the frame the light switch was off. So I am at wondering if I have a cracked wire somewhere between the switch and the lights. Does anyone know what color I should be looking for, starting at the highbeam switch? Possible that my wire has a problem in the same are as the one you mentioned was rubbing.

If you had a ground wire rubbing and grounding out before the switch, then the lights would never shut off. I will try to get you a wiring diagram.

You say that you have aftermarket lights. Did they come with a harness that you had to add???

Does this truck have a snow plow???

Looks like its a red wire with orange tracer. It runs from your multifunction switch, down the steering column, through the large connector next to your left foot while sitting in the seat, then out to your lights.

If you have lows but now highs, have 12 volts on the violet wire, then its the ground wire between multifunction switch and lights. I would disconnect the stock to aftermarket plug and see if you have a ground at the stock connector.
